Tennessee Vols Basketball Recruiting

A team led by SV and JJJ just isn't a very inspiring group of guys if there isn't a KC level player to take the pressure off.

Eh, KC didn't really start becoming the alpha until the last third of the year. This is still a 20 win team under Barnes that will get bounced the first weekend in March.

Getting big 2019 vibes for next season if we don't pull in a big target. Solid squad, just won't be legit contenders without a first round talent.

well definitely be a down year especially if they don’t get phillips. will be a 7-10 seed next year probably if they miss on everybody again .

This is what I’ve been trying to say. But people don’t like the truth. At this point we have to just go for the scraps and mid-low major level players. If getting outrecruited by Georgetown doesn’t worry you than nothing will..

Barnes’s best team at UT was built on players that y’all thought were mid major talent.

I mean understand Murray’s reasoning for choosing Georgetown I guess, but I still think it’s incredibly dumb. Georgetown just had one of its worst seasons in program history in YEAR 5 (!!) of the Ewing era. Seems incredibly risky to bank your career on a guy who has proven he can’t really develop talent and doesn’t put guys in the league.

I'd say there's a better chance he'll be back in the portal next season than anything else.

Nickleberry was head of recruiting at LSU, had the nickname, “Payday” and has signed a lot of top 100 players. The profile of Georgetown is very different with him there. I would not count them out on anyone they pursue. He’s the Rodney Garner of last minute hotbox recruiting. I have not heard he’s HC in waiting if Ewing fails, but I wouldn’t be surprised.

I’ve heard that there will be an NIL package for all of our contributors, and that Murray was given something meaningful to think about in that regard. I get very queasy thinking about Nickelberry having the last word with Murray, but have to believe that we made a very good case. I tend to think he’s a better fit than most here do. He’s a good athlete with excellent length and speed. His decision-making and shot need improvement, but he’s worth the risk for the upside. I think Barnes could turn him into a great player with a pro future.
