Texas A&M/SEC megamerge thread extravaganza

As it stands currently, A&M will be leaving the Big 12 today with the hopes of joining the SEC in 2012.

As it will play out, A&M can look forward to a wonderful season in Conference USA in 2012.

I can't tell if you're serious.

This is depressing. :cray:

The sheep fans are all for it, like they are going to get a cut of those TV dollars.

If A&M has so many damn viewers in the Houston market, why don't they start up the Aggie network, please. Seriously, please. Take all your viewers and blow the Longhorn Network out of the water.

Anything that pumps more money into Alabama's athletic coffers and helps recruiting, without creating an impossible road to success, is okay by me.

I'm not sure why any fan of an SEC school would have a problem with this. Unless that fan simple doesn't like change.

Yea, that's all Alabama needs. 20 million dollar band, 2 billion dollar players. Seriously, you realize the extra money is most likely going to be pumped into women's soccer don't you?

Hence the words "athletic coffers" rather than "football team". This move will help the AD as a whole, and I can't see any downside.

We should just expand to 32 teams, and grab all of the TV markets. That would surely be the ultimate.

We could get every major TV market in the country by simply expanding to 23.

Man, that would be so awesome.

You have no idea how bad I want to see the Lady Vols golf team taking private jets to tournaments around nation. I want that. So. Bad.

I'm sorry you don't value your women's golf team.

If it helps, I promise the sun will still rise after the SEC expands.

I wouldn't worry about it. I will admit though, you are the ultimate fan, bud. Big rowing fan too, aren't you?

I'm not pretending to give a crap about any of the lesser sports. But just because I don't follow them doesn't mean I don't want them to succeed.

I've yet to read a single decent argument as to the adverse effects of adding A&M. And "I don't care about women's golf" is certainly not a decent argument.

The tide that washes to shore on Lucifer's Beach is created by the tears of Muschump over conference expansion.

His orange certainly appears to have more of a 'burnt' hue.

I haven't seen one for adding them besides "hurrr TV Dollars."

I'll give you several.

1) TV dollars.

2) TV exposure.

3) Texas is the best state in the nation for recruiting. While the Longhorns will still have no trouble getting the kids they want, SEC schools will now have the added recruiting pitch of playing in the SEC while still being able to play in front of your hometown fans. It also guarantees maximum visibility for all SEC teams in the state where they want to be most visible.

4) Since realignment is all but a guarantee across the country, it guarantees that the SEC will not fall behind.

5) The SEC doesn't need to get much stronger as far as national perception, but it certainly couldn't hurt.

Awful reasons.

You think this is going to help Tennessee recruiting? Texas recruits leave Texas (in the rare occasion they don't want to play for Texas or OU) to play in the SEC. Won't they stay in Texas to play in the SEC now? How in the hell is adding teams across the globe to play in the SEC going to help Tennessee, when we have to recruit Nationally?

The "SEC factor" only overcomes the "Distance factor" once in a blue moon (Dalton Santos). Now we will have a Texas (you can sub Maryland, Missouri, etc) team in the SEC. How in the hell will that help Tennessee recruiting?

Tennessee is one of the teams it should help most BECAUSE Tennessee has to recruit nationally. The visibility of having every game watched in that state, plus actually playing there every few years is huge for recruiting. The "distance factor" isn't as significant when the recruit knows he'll be playing close to home during his career.
