edit to add the following:

National Champion Men's and Women's track team to be at Notre Dame, Wisconsin, and South Carolina in the upcoming months.

Volleyball in Portland, Butler, Xavier, Toledo, and Washington State.

I recognize what the SEC gets back in return, but what aTm gives in no way helps the fans, it only helps line the pocketbooks of the conference. I could personally care less how many viewers aTm brings, it doesn't add anything to our SEC experience as UT fans. It's equally ignorant that people act like it will just be business as usual, but we'll just have a couple new teams. There's no such thing as a free lunch, so in order to get all this extra money, some other things will probably have to be sacrificed, and to me that kind of sucks.

This does not make any sense. What would help you as a fan? Free tickets, free parking? Since when does anybody owe you anything? Let me ask you a question, what have you done to help make college football better?

What will be sacrificed? Obviously there will be more teams added, which means more competition and a lot of fun to watch at that.

A&M just received their letter from the B12 giving them the guidelines to leave. One step closer

The typical response would be "check books across Aggieland just opened", however these things are settled through withholding revenue sharing in the final season of the schools athletic calendar. In short, we'll whip these sonsab!tches for free this year.

Stay tuned.

Chip Brown from Orangebloods.com just tweeted this.

Sources tell Orangebloods.com Texas A&M will formally withdraw from the Big 12 on Tuesday, setting up the Aggies' application to the #SEC.

Which has been relayed to me also. I'm glad someone else said it first though. I bet Chip just loved typing that.

They, especially U of T - Austin, seem to be delusional about this whole ordeal. The conference is either going to fall apart or be much weaker. How are the other schools dealing with it all?

I welcome Texas A&M. I think they are a great fit for the conference. I think the 14th team will be VA Tech. At least that is the vibe up here in northeast TN. Tech has a BOV meeting scheduled for Tuesday I believe. I am sure SEC expansion will be part of that meeting.

Their Rivals "guru" said they have already been offered. I think Slive favors Tech. They fit in with the culture and have some national appeal. Alot like A&M. I don't see Missouri in the SEC. Just isn't a good fit at all IMO. Big 10 didn't want them. I can't see the SEC taking them.

But at the end of day. I don't think the SEC quits at 14. Maryland is supposedly talking the the Big 10. I don't think the Big 12 stays together. Some of those teams will end up in the PAC 12. I think all three major conferences want 16 teams. If that happens I think FSU and Clemson come back in play for the SEC. The ACC looks to be the conference that gets picked apart.

There is more to this than just the huge tv deals. I think the major conferences have their eyes on a split. It could include the NCAA or it could not. I don't know. But the real money is with a split. Three or four major conferences with 16 teams four divisions with four teams each.

A playoff will come from that. That is the end game. That money will be off the charts. Make the BCS look like cump change. And they want it all. I think it is only a matter of time. But it will be interesting how the conferences take shape if it does happen. We shall see.... JMO....

UNC will never leave the ACC to join the SEC. Of that list, Virginia Tech looks the most logical to me. Maryland and Missouri would add nothing to the SEC.

aGREED and VT adds little. I don't see any UNC system school or Duke leaving the ACC, too entrenched around here.

Burden of proof is on you. Explain.

Not a great basketball school for one and I don't think their market draw is that big. I am fine with their FB team which is what o think they add. Their still IMO the best and most logical additions. You don't pick up an A&M every day. Sure as hell like VT over mizzou or whatever.

VT's market is a whole lot larger than people here give it credit for. There are loads of Tech alumni and fans in the DC area, and pretty much the entire southern half of the state, from the Tennessee border to Richmond to the ocean, is what I would call majority Tech territory.

Their fanbase has ballooned in the past 20ish years, and it's been sustained for long enough that I don't think it's going to dissipate with a few bad seasons of football.

Their basketball team isn't great, but it's a borderline tourney team pretty often- not a terrible add.

That all may be true, I just think their the best of what makes sense according to some of the rules laid out. It isn't because I think they are a slam dunk or add a lot outside of FB.

Rules/hurdles as I understand them:

No new teams in states where we already have a presence, rules out most multisport power programs in the south

Southernish team, IMO rules out mizzou or makes them seem like a stretch

UNC school system will be hard to breakup, if at all

Ideally big market share

That leaves MD or some second tier TX teams and a whole list of other reaches

I think Tech culture fits better than anyone mentioned. It is a barn school playing with the rich kids right now. UNC and Duke didn't want them. They both voted against the ACC going to 12.

Tech's market includes almost all of VA other than charletsville. But I think people looking at this from TV market standpoint are looking at it the wrong way. I think the team has to add to the brand first. I think Tech has proven they are the class of the ACC in football and in turn have some national appeal. That adds to the conference. The days of the regional games are almost over. You can almost watch any game you want now a days. But Tech does as a new market as well. Is it as big as ST Louis and KC markets? Probably not. But I think if you add the name appeal nationally to their market. You get more from Tech than anyone listed.

The people thinking UNC or Duke would consider coming don't really understand either of those schools and how they percieve themselves or us. It would never happen.

And before this is done. You will see FSU and Clemson mentioned again as well. We are heading for a 16 team SEC. IMO....

Pete Thamel of NYT is reporting that A&M sent their withdrawal papers tonight.

But do they watch the games, both in person and on TV? That always seems to be the caveat about the NoVa fan base. (That's also why I think that Maryland is a no-go.)

I'd actually like to see #14 be Va Tech, but I'm curious what you think about the number of butts in seats, both in the stands and in front of the tube.

Their games are regularly on TV in the area, I'm pretty sure.

The bolded above is one issue I've yet to think about regarding Tech- the entire fanbase doesn't really travel for sh!t. As far as I know, though, they tune in to the games as much as anyone else. There was evidently enough support in the area for Tech to play a "neutral" site game up in DC.
