Texas A&M/SEC megamerge thread extravaganza

Setting all the hillbilly jokes to the side for a second, I'm scratching my head as to why Slive thinks WVU would be an attractive fit.

I don't know that their fan and alumni bases are all that large and there's not anything that even remotely resembles a large TV market in that state. Their academic reputation isn't all that strong. And although their football program has flirted with a few national titles in the past ('88 and '07), for the most part the on-field product has been mediocre at best.

Maybe it's just an eastern school that would be easier to pluck than Va Tech or Clemson or FSU...a warm body that helps avoid an uneven league.

They like semi warm bodies in WV, they're still flexible, maybe your on to something.

As it stands currently:

The teleconference has concluded. Baylor's Ken Starr has expressed his intentions to sue TAMU if they elect to leave. Other reps around the conference have attempted to sway his decision to not do so, in order to allow us to go( despite rumors that claim otherwise).

Thus far, no announcement foreseeable today, unless Starr makes a call to announce he has changed his mind.

So Baylor is continuing to be a bunch of *****es?

Wouldn't you if you were destined to compete against the likes of Stephen F Austin and McNeese State?

I'd accept my place and count myself lucky that I was blessed enough to get into a conference I didn't deserve to be in in the first place.

God no, you don't reward them for doing this

Baylor is applying the only leverage that is left to them. If the Oklahoma schools had kept their mouths shut for a few more days then this would all be moot but it did not go down that way.

While I understand Starr's position...the A&M train left the station weeks ago. In a way, I feel sorry for Baylor. Their athletic program is living on borrowed time...and truth be known, it's not A&M that should be focus of their wrath...it should be that other school 90 minutes down I-35.

I can pass along Mr. Starr's contact information to you if you'd like to share your insight. < Not kidding.

VolunteerHillbilly nailed it. Now the speculation...did the Oklahoma schools do this on purpose? T Boone Pickens made it quite clear he was opposed to A&M's departure.

So basically all of these schools just want a payday since there is no chance that they can legally force Texas A&M to stay in the Big 12. Wow. Just...wow.

Good luck A&M. I thought you guys were going to be in by the start of the season..

Wait..........the B12 has already contacted Arky about moving there without worries about being sued, but A&M leaves the conference first and THEN the SEC votes them in, but everyone's worried about being sued?

I say 'f' em. The B12 letter of 9/2 stated that there would be no litigation if the Aggies were voted into another conference by 5pm on 9/8.

If I was an Aggie, I would want to do away with anything that concerns Baylor. I can't imagine the frustration that fanbase is feeling.
