Yes, and he managed to that by losing this game. It stopped all possibilities of fans propping up a misleading 7-5 record resume to retain him.
The misleading resume is exactly what got him his 2nd and 3rd year.
We're not rooting against Tennessee. We're rooting against horrible coaching, and for only ONE game, in the hopes of preventing another terrible year. We're looking ahead, because we care. Just like the Colts fans who acknowledged the benefit of losing their last 2011 game to snag Luck.
Unless Dooley went 0-12 his first year, he was going to get a 2nd and 3rd year based on the dumpster fire he inherited alone. Let's not act like he walked into a golden situation. The way UT lost to LSU and UNC cast doubt in my mind and I'm sure others. The loss to Ky last year made this year a make or break year. A 7-5 record with no signature wins was not a slam dunk that he was going to be back next year.
Comparing the NFL to college is apples and oranges. Not even the same thing or situation.
