The 2008 Carolina Panthers thread

i couldnt see the game here, but didnt they get like a first down running on 3rd and 11 or something to finally drain the rest of the game clock?

Yep, Deangelo Williams got it with a draw play in which he moved about 3 defenders 3 yards to get the first down

It wasn't looking very good in the 1st half, but they did step up and get the win.

The good news, Panther's are 6-2 and in 1st.

However,I'm sure we all realize they could easily be 4-4, so the playoffs are far from a lock.

I think they need to go at least 4-4 and beat TB to get in, which won't be easy with all the road games, but I believe they will get it done.

Go Panthers !

Hopefully the team realizes this, they have a comfortable lead right now, but hopefully they will not throw it away. The next two games should be wins, and are really must wins before going on their tough ending schedule.

hard to complain about the win, but the defense got carved up pretty good, save a couple of very timely turnovers, and we're not singing the same tune today. Likewise, the offense struggled at times mounting drivers......several big plays really bolstered things.

the last drive though was a thing of beauty.

still, would like to see this defense get off the field more often....AZ had over 20 1st downs i believe.

but like i said, hard to argue with 6-2...they did make the plays you have to make to win games....and in this league, that is all that matters.

I only got to watch the 2nd half of the game since I was coming home from knoxville, but from listening to it on the radio, I was like heck yes, good start! But that's all it was, a good start and nothing more. Jake did not realize that the panthers were not wearing black today, they were in the white uniforms. :shakehead: Oh well, it is a win, and again their act needs to get together before the next game because a good team would have converted all of those turnovers into points.

It was a bad Jake day. They played like crap, but got the win and that's all that matters.

Another must win with Detroit coming to town.

all you hope for there is that he got all that out of his system for the stretch run.

2nd best record in the NFC......that's tough stuff. a win is a win is a win.

That Oakland corner completely took Smitty out of the game. I'm sure that had a lot to do with Big Jake's lack of rhythm and timing. I'm surprised Moose couldn't get more going than he did, but with Jake throwing the ball to the other team half of the time, that was probably the reason why.

From where I was sitting, it looked like the first half interceptions rattled Jake pretty bad and he got wild high and started overthrowing. The Raiders were putting some heat on him which didn't help matters either. Of course Jake, like any other QB's due to have an off day once in a while. Look for him to come back strong against Detroit.
Anyhow, we got a win (17-6) which looks just as good in the standings as a 35-0 blowout. It was frustrating to watch because I kept getting that uneasy feeling all through the second half. I've seen too many of these NFL deals where the big underdog hangs around up to the end and then gets a lucky break and beats you. Peppers and the "D" got it done, thank God.

Well the panthers just seem to be getting by with just W's. They seem to play down to their opponents and getting away with W's will not last for long if they keep this up.

I thought the panthers were known for their defense, but to me it just seems like they give up bigger plays every week and allow teams just to march right down the field. Frustrating!

Next week will be interesting..

I hope your right about them playing down to the competition, because the intensity certainly seems lacking. The rest of the schedule is brutal, so its hard to feel very good about this team right now.

If they can play Atlanta with the intensity they had against N.O., I will feel much better.

Go Panthers!

ugh. happy about the win. not happy about how we got it.
pathetic for the most part.

Jake seems to be regressing, and i can't figure out why. the defense is either really really good or a complete no show.

the o line and Williams and Stewart are awesome. will be interested to see if they can do anything close to that against a good defense.

8-2. hard to argue with the result....but sometimes the ends don't justify the means, especially when you still have 6 games to go and Tamp just looks better than us right now.

Someone mentioned that Jake might have a slight injury, don't know much truth to that, but his throwing hasn't looked exactly pretty either.

I can't say I agree with you on Tampa. I for sure thought they looked excellent against Carolina, but after that they kind of have withered. They have gotten the w's but just barely like Carolina has. I mean a 3 point win over KC in OT? Come on! Like Carolina they have a great win-loss column, but I can't say they look impressive. I think ATL looks more impressive than Tampa.

Will definitely be an interesting game this weekend.

I'm putting you Panther fans on notice....

Next week you shall fall....Hopefully.

No no Willy! :p

that's fair. Tampa hasn't been setting the world on fire either, but they did beat Minnesota over the weekend. and they are gettting better qb play. i think that's where i make the biggest difference between the two lately.

the ATL game this weekend is probalby bigger than we'd like it to be.

3-3 in the final 6 won't be bad if at least two of those w's are against Tampa and Atlanta.

Well Tampa is at home on a Monday night, so it should be a lively game. I don't think the same outcome will happen as the first Tampa game. I give that a better chance as the W for those two games, but who knows our team might be beaten up by then.

Not q big fan of Garcia but he is getting it done. Tough game none the less. Should be a good one. Note: we did struggle with the Lions as well. My guess is as good as yours.

Well home field advantage is seeming to be key in this division. It will be an interesting game for sure, but I do not see a blow out by Tampa like they got at home.

Tough loss for Carolina today. It was bound to happen sooner or later, with the way ATL has been playing I kind of expected it. It would have helped to see the same passion that the panthers had in the 2nd half in the first half, then things may have been a little bit different.

garbage. that's what happens to the team that's played the last two weeks when they play a team with any competence.

winning the remaining division games is now an absolute MUST, or you go from the 2 seed to maybe the 5 seed to potentially out of hte playoffs, maybe with a 10-6 record.

this team i think could be in some real trouble.
