Anyone ever used a KMC chain with the removable link? Is there a trick to using the link?

I had the hardest time just getting it on, and now can't figure out how to get it off.

Why is it so difficult? I used Connex before and had no problem.

I'm not a fan of KMC chains. The Park master link tool is handy for removing them, though.

These pliers?

Park MLP-1.2 Master Link Pliers

Cost as much as the chain did. Kind of defeats the purpose.

I ordered two or three of them a year ago. I hope they aren't all this bad. The chain works well enough once its on the bike. It's just the stupid link. There's almost no play in the fit at all.

What brands do you recommend? I'm looking to acquire a bike. I'm worried about finding the right size. I'm 6'5" & want a trail bike. Thoughts??

I'd go with a 29er at your size. How much you want to spend? What type of trails do you want to ride?

Budget around $500. I guess moderate trails, nothing too crazy. Probably some street riding too.

Is a 29er a style or brand? What features are most important?

My order: proper fit, Disc Brakes, Rock Shocks, Gears.

29ers refer to wheel's size of 29" instead of the old standard of 26", or now 27.5"(650b). Honestly, $500 is going to get you a pretty cheap bike. It'll have cable pull disc brakes, probably Tektro Novela that don't work the greatest. You probably won't get anything with a RockShox fork for under $900, but have no fear - Suntour forks aren't all that bad, they're just heavy and not easily serviceable. You'll get something with gears, most likely Sram X4 and 21 or 24 speed.

Check out the Felt Nine80. It retails for $619, but you might be able tto find one locally on sale. This is a good time to buy because most shops have their 2013 inventory marked down to make room for 2014 bikes.

went on a six mile trail ride today. It's so much fun sliding through the sand and working to maintain control. It's also tough as crap to wheel through said sand. Great workout. Loved it and can't wait to go again.

to smashmouth. I'm just getting started too, I just bought an $880 Specialized Rockhopper. I love the thing, it's a lot of fun. More than I wanted to spend, but I would've been very disappointed had I spent the $5-600 I was thinking. You might try Craigslist though.

Sand is a lot of fun to ride through and definitely improves technique quickly.

Pinarello?

Yes. Dogma 65.1 Think2 equipped with Campagnolo Super Record Ti, Easton EC90 SL wheels, and PRO Stealth Evo bar/stem combo. It's pretty bad ass.

Same guy also has a Felt AR FRD frameset and another Campy group on order, slated for December build with a Rotor power meter crank. I'm really excited about that bike.

Sweet. Dogma is my dream bike. Post a picture when you get it built.
