The All Things Cycling Thread

Wrecking on dirt > asphalt > concrete, from experience.

Today a guy dropped his mtn bike off at the shop, said he was riding the triathlon this weekend, and wanted us to make it as fast as possible... New tires and toe straps and that's about all we could do with 2 days notice and a 2 week wait.

My first sprint tri on a mountain bike...

My first duathlon was on trail. Rode a Huffy rigid with a kickstand from walmart. Thing weighed 50 lbs. I had never moutain biked before. Remember my first downhill thinking what the heck am I doing. I'm going to die. That was fun. Except the next day my butt felt like I had been to prison.

I bought my mountain bike from Target. I think it was a Glacier Point. It weighed 38 lb. My bike now weighs 26lb and has much narrower tires. Def makes a difference in climbing hills. Also the grears on my mtn bike sucked...

I seen a sprint tri that actually had a "big tire" division for people with mtn bikes last year here in GA.

A lot of people do tri's on mountain bikes, but there's not really much you can do to make them faster.

3 hr drive home. Seeing all these mountain bikes headed to the trails. Pisses me off

Tell me bout it. I should be sponsored. I'm so slow advertisers would get maximum exposure.

plenty of hills here. Gotta get brave enough to stay off the brakes. Topped 35 mph before

I have to find a longer, steeper hill. I want to top 50mph. On my old bike I would have never even considered it, but the Felt is just so much more stable at higher speeds.

hill here in Roanoke called The Wall. I haven't ridden it yet but a friend of mine hit 52 mph coming down it.

How big is he? I could probably hit over 55mph on a hill here, but it's not a safe one at all.

6'. 175 lb. it is a steep arse hill. His wife is 5'5" & 135 lbs hit 40+ and checked up cause she got scared.

Riding country roads today. Crested a hill and saw a barn with a Power T painted on the side. Volnation is strong.

Bet I could easily break 55mph since I weight an extra 50 lbs. About to go out on a bench tour ride. Stop at every bench along the path and drink.

Elbow/forarm and hip are still swolen and sore but I had to get some work in.
