The All Things Cycling Thread

46 miles today. Almost finished with my winter commuter/beater. Found a frame for a fixed gear bike that I'll build.

35 miles yesterday. rode some flat, climbed a small mountain, then the blue ridge parkway home. the weather was perfect.

37 miles of headwinds and hills on Sunday. Was cruising along tonight when I hit an s-curve at about 20mph and lost both wheels. Slid along the wet, leaf covered pavement. Nice road rash on my ass and knee. Bike is okay, thankfully.

ouch that hurts. hope to ride this weekend. Perfect weather and fall colors.

Right before I fell I was telling my friend that the leaves are so fun to ride in... Lol.

I wanted to take the bike out today, but the slick leaves along the various paths and trails discouraged me from doing so. Hopefully the weather will clear up so I can go tomorrow, running is just no fun compared to cycling...

I get such an adrenaline rush from riding on sketchy areas, though. I should really get on building this frame I have for single speed cyclocross so I can beat the crap out of it.

Rode 22 on Friday and 15 on Saturday. The wind was brutal. Felt like I was at the beach.

Rode 20 miles on Saturday just to the shop and back. Built a couple of BMX bikes. Heading back tonight to build more BMX and road bikes. Gonna try to throw the Felt AR4 together that we got in... then find out what it'll take me to get it.

I was offered a job tonight to begin working at the shop in the spring full time. Some more winter training will cement my position. I cannot wait to get out of the car business.

Finished the race in 3 hrs 9 minutes. My quads cramped and seized. Not fun but the race was great.

Went to ride the newly finished commuter to work this morning but it was pouring down rain and I was running late as it was. Blah. Hauling that 30+lb bike up 3 flights of stairs is a pain, too.

Store owner got a full supsension 2011 Kona Hei-Hei 29'er that's a South Africa only model in for himself. It's the most badass bike I've ever seen. It was a former demo model so he was a little worried about the condition but it's mint. Turns out it was only ridden about 10 times outside of shops. Has yet to see a trail. It's orange, too. I rode it on Saturday. So freaking nice. I'm very, very jealous. Plus, it's a $3500MSRP bike that he got for just about $1000...

Think I'm going to get me a beater commuter bike from a pawn shop

Craigslist. Find a 90's Trek 920 or something. Old singletrack. They're bombproof, cheap, and perfect for commuting. Mine is an 80's Miyata 210 touring bike. Seat stays were bent, fixed those kinda. Friction downtuble shifters. Size 63, way too tall for me but it works. Threw a new rear wheel and freewheel on it, some fenders, a rack, pannier, new tape and brakes. Can't wait to actually ride it to work... assuming I have this job much longer.

just started looking on CL for something like that. Dont want to spend more than $75 though

Shouldn't be too hard to stay that low. Just beware, you will probably be looking at some replacement of shifters, tires, chain, tubes, cables... etc when you buy something like that.

ya thats not an issue. I just want a beater. My road bike now is too nice to ride in the rain or chain up to posts, etc.

Up and at 'em early tomorrow. Gonna try to rip off a ton of miles in the morning and then build some bikes in the afternoon.

8 miles on hte mountain bike yesterday. The fall leaves are great.

Has anyone ridden at Norris Park in Knoxville? Is it anything like Haw Ridge?

first ride in nearly 2 months since bike was stolen from work. A beautiful 30 mile ride along the gulf coast at about 75 degrees today. Makes a ride more fun when the ladies are out in bikini tops!
