I saw a dude the other day that had a tiny, round, rear view mirror extending from his glasses. I laughed my ass off.

1. Price range?
2. Would you prefer to sit upright, hunched over, or in between?
3. What would the percentage of time spent on road vs. dirt trails be?
4. Do you want to go fast?
First of all, don't buy a Wal-Mart or Target bike, they're all junk. Secondly, check out a local bike store and test ride different kinds of bikes. You'll get a feel for what you're most comfortable with. Mountain bikes and hybrids are upright, road bikes are hunched over or in between.
Personally, I prefer road bikes. I have had a hybrid bike and I found it to be uncomfortable.
Don't be intimidated by the skinny tires on a road bike, you won't fall over. Mountain bikes and hybrid bikes, to a lesser extent, are less efficient than road bikes.
You'll want to get a proper fit for whatever bike you decide to get.
bonus:yes:
dang Vt! you got toys bruh... refreshing to hear that someone with Harleys will still get on a bike that takes man power.

Harleys aren't mine, they're my dad and brother's. You'll never catch me riding a Harley. Give me a Triumph Speed Triple.
I used to climb a short, 20%+ grade hill every once in a while. I felt awesome afterwards, but could barely finish the last mile to home.
i dontt know what % this hill is, but i sure know what % of my energy it took getting up it.. honestly, it makes me think i wouldnt mind "collecting" some hills that lie around here. a unique sense of small accomplishment.

Congrats on conquering the hill. There are some of those around here and I've got a mental list of them.

thanks man. i conquered a smaller one today but am just as proud. i believe it was you that stated road biking will improve one`s mountain biking. im starting to understand what you mean by that.

Several ways, one is the bigger gears on road bike makes you stronger. Another is amount of pedaling. On a typical mtn bike ride I generally don't pedal downhill or when setting up to clear something technical. The result is I only pedal about 50% of the time. On road bike I pedal constantly unless I'm going over 30+ mph which is rare. So I'm pedaling 99% of the time.
I ride more since I don't travel time going to the trails.
another thing I've found is if I'm tired mtn biking then I might take a break at a trail intersection cause no one is going to see me. When I get tired on the road I keep riding. Cause sitting on the side of the road in full lycra with traffic going by makes you look dumb.
