Tuesday morning.

got in a nice 15 mile road ride today. A little windy but the weather was perfect.

Thats awesome. I can't wait till my boy is old enough to ride. It well be a few years

thats it. picture does it no justice. def an eyecatcher.

Yeah, I've been looking at other pictures. I cannot wait. I'm sure I'll pop a stiffy once it's unboxed. I really hope mine comes with the orange tires. Is the orange bright or not? I'm seeing conflicting photos, some show bright and some show more pastel-ish.

I still have to choose which pedals I'm going to put on it. I probably won't be able to ride until Friday night, unless I strip the clipless Look's off of my Trek and throw them on the Z6, but they're ugly as sin.

I'm thinking either Time RXS's, Speedplay Zeros, or Shimano 105 ($66.99) or Ultegra ($110.99) My LBS also has a ton of used ones I could pick from...people just give him their old pedals and stuff they upgrade from. I'm leaning towards Speedplay because they have platforms I can stick on the pedals when I want to just run down to Subway or something so I don't have to wear my cycling shoes.

He has a set of Shimano 105 flight deck shifters that someone upgraded to Dura-Ace from that they just gave him. I'll probably end up upgrading the microSHIFT brifters to those. I'm not liking the reviews for the microSHIFT so far. He's selling them for $219.

I also need a new helmet since my good one got smashed up when I last crashed back in May. I've been riding an older Giro mountain bike helmet ever since and I just don't like it.

is clipping your feet to the pedals important to a road biker? is that so you can pull and push as you pedal?

Yes. Plus the sole of a road bike shoe is extremely stiff. More of your power is transferred to the crank. It makes a big difference.

Makes a huge difference. You get added power on the up stroke on top of what tri said.

I'm gonna put a 70.3 sticker on my car to be cool like Hohen.

In other sorta related news, a new goal of mine is to do a sprint triathlon next year.

Is that a Shimano 2300 group? How much time do you actually spend in aero position? Do you find that you have less control when you're on the aero bars?

How much time I spend in aero depends on the length of the ride. I spend more time when I go for a long ride. Most of the time though I'm up and lean down when wind kicks up or want to rest on a longer ride. Once you spend enough time in aero position you have pretty decent control but not the same of course. Not good when riding in groups and at the end of a ride when I get tired I'm a bit wobbly when transiting between aero and up.

Well, I'm off to the gym then spending the rest of the day building bikes at the shop... and finally building mine. Will update with photos tonight.

Aero bars intrigue me, but I don't feel safe around here with them. I could be a pretty dangerous missile after a long ride and on nice days the paths are pretty packed. I see older men and women that slap them on their hybrids, I definitely don't want to be around them in a crowded area. I might eventually pick a set up anyways.

I don't use them either on any roads that don't have a separate bike lane. Country roads are a no no for me. Too many a-hole motorists don't leave enough space anyhow.
