The All Things Cycling Thread

Had a professional fit to my road bike today... need a longer seat post, new saddle, shorter stem, and new shoes... ugh. Guess there's my reason to buy a PRO cockpit that matches the rest of my bike.

I also found out that my ankles are supposed to have 10° of dorsiflexion and plantarflexion, and I have 3° and 5° respectively. Completely explains why I walk so slow.

Road race, time trial, and a criterium in Iowa City this weekend if I can get Saturday off. Not sure if I'm quite ready for road bike racing, but whatever.

Got pulled over on my road bike. Was going 28 in a 20... beyond ridiculous. Fat cop didn't have anything better to do than set a speed trap on a residential road and pull over a bicyclist. No ticket, though.

Damn...I can't decide if that's a bad or good thing

My wife is in love with the idea of vacationing in France and cycling through the wine country (she found an advertisement for cycling trips). I told her we don't cycle. She said, "We could train for it before we leave."

If I have to train for it...it's not a "vacation".

He was one of the few cops in the local PD that doesn't ride bikes. We have a service contract with the PD and all of the cops bring us their personal rides, too. I'm guessing that one of the cops I ride with on a regualr basis chimed in over the radio and told him to leave me alone. They routinely blow stop signs and lights on their bikes. Kind of funny. Probably why we hardly ever hear of harassment from the local PD vs surrounding towns.

Sure it is. "Training" for a leisurely ride doesn't take much. Ride a few times a week and get your butt used to a saddle.

Im with you there. My vacation's typically involve water, sand, and a tiki bar.

Trek has a thing called Trek Travel, and a few of their rides are in wine country in Cali. I know it is not France, but still would be a great ride.

It would suck to get a ticket, but at least you'd have something to brag about. You didn't get the impression that he stopped you in hopes if getting your number did you?

Just heard that my local mtb park is closing indefinitely because of bridge safety. That just made riding off-road 10x more difficult and time consuming if I have to ride 10 miles further each way to get to other parks after work that close at dusk.

New bike is in. I had to change the housing to all black and then put some lizardskin h-bar tape on it. Did not even make it out of the shop without doing that.

I approve. The Lizard Skins tape doesn't last very long, though. We used to sell a ton of it and then people would be back in for new wrap in just a couple of months. It's comfy as hell, though.

Yeah I was not sure if I wanted to get it especially since the price is about double the gel tape. I love it on my other bike, but like you said it does not last that long. The feel reminds me a lot of my grips on my golf clubs, very sticky and comfy.

Yeah, I don't know how they can justify the $40 price tag when the PRO by Shimano stuff is more comfy, easier to clean, lasts a lot longer, and costs half the price. I've had the same wrap on my bars since last spring, no signs of wear.
