The Andrew Wiggins Sweepstakes

Anybody think it's weird that a couple years ago Auburn/Alabama won championships back to back in football and now Louisville/Kentucky might win back to back championships in basketball?

Alabama sure loves football and Kentucky sure loves basketball... lol

Also, if Louisville men and women both win a championship, are they the only other team do it besides Uconn? If I recall, Okafor and Tirasi both won championships in the same season.

I predicted Louisville's women to win it all after they beat Baylor and us. I was like... who is gonna stop these guys?? We'll see. And it came down to me pulling for Wichita followed by Louisville for the men's. I don't want to see Michigan win.

KU is well known for tanking in the tourney, despite being so successful in the regular season. I always have them bowing out in the Sweet 16 in my brackets

With the talent he had, with the momentum he had, lost games in the tourney to teams KU shouldn't have lost to. (ie., GA Tech, Bucknell, Bradley, Northern Iowa.)

You are throwing the GT loss in there? That is absurd to call that "tanking" (GT was a 3-seed, that ended up losing to UConn in the championship, KU was a 4-seed). The Bucknell and Bradley losses were bad, but those teams were not going to win any championships. The N. Iowa game, in my opinion, is his only big "tank" job.

Define "tank"?

Nine years at KU: one national title, two final fours, five elite eights, and seven sweet sixteens.

Self has as many elite eight appearances in nine years as Roy had in fifteen (and, I will gladly assert that Self has not had the talent that Roy had).

Having 1 seeds that lose to VCU (granted a lot of teams did that year) and 3 seeds that lose to Bucknell. No doubt that Self has been successful overall in the Tournament, but he has also had some remarkable disappointments. Anyhow, I think we're splitting hairs, so I'll just move on.

I'm not saying Self is a bad coach. He's probably a top 10-15 coach right now. Same with Roy. But Self took over two solid program (Illinois and Kansas) that were already solid when he got there. Roy had to rebuild Kansas and UNC.

And yes, I know Brown just won a title at KU, but they were hit hard with sanctions.

Really wanted to see the UNC-UK matchup again. I think UK would have probably won, but UNC (w/ Kendall Marshall) v.s. UK would have been one for the ages.

You and me both, brother. I'm like you, I still think UK wins that game and there's not much doubt for me that they were an overall better team. UNC had one or two head scratchers that year as well, like the brain-bashing they took down at FSU. But in a one game scenario, I think it would have been the most compelling potential matchup of the Tournament in quite some time.

That's a good point. I've never really thought about it that way, although Doherty left Roy with some major talent. I think the KU rebuilding argument is much more effective to your point here. Not to mention that he wasn't established as a head coach yet, like Self was when he came in. However, any assistant that Dean vouched for would carry a lot of immediate cred.

Oral Roberts was not solid when Self took over (Tulsa was, though). Taking over after Kruger and Roy was a boon, though (Roy left KU in great shape).

Self did a great job at Oral Roberts and I should have mention that.

I was more arguing the point of VKA how Roy is always stacked with talent when he did have to rebuild two programs and Self had a good-great situation from day one. Although it's not like Roy was rebuilding Tennessee and Oklahoma State. If you are going to rebuild, Kansas and UNC are about as perfect a place to rebuild as anywhere else.

And that's not a shot at either one. You play the hand you are dealt.

Either way, I think both fan bases are happy with how it has turned out.

While KU was hit with sanctions, Roy took over a very talented basketball team (Kevin Pritchard and Mark Randall). "Rebuilding" for Roy started out with two starters that were first round draft picks. "Rebuilding" for Roy at UNC started out with Sean May, Rashad McCants, and Felton.

Granted, Self has only ever been in one "cupboard's empty" situation. But, Roy has never been in one.

@UofAPointGuardU: Andrew Wiggins, the No. 1 recruit in the 2013 ESPN 100, will commit to Florida State.
I've looked all through that Twitter feed and can't find the tweet you've quoted. He must have taken it down.

Only question is if he got bad info or if he just released too early.

EDIT: I'm saying bad info. Wiggins tweeted this:

@22wiggins 2h
Lol if you ain't in my family you know nothing about my recruitment , lol stop with the rumors
