I've heard of that, and always laughed a bit at people who don't think any more of hooligans than a bunch of drunk louts. From what I've seen of the show so far, Burnley of all places has easily the hardest hooligans in England, and Celtic-Rangers puts any London derby to shame. Severe economic depression and/or centuries of hostile occupation tend to do that.

Real Madrid issue €30m ultimatum for Modric - ESPN Soccernet

Real Madrid have handed Tottenham a €30 million 'take it or leave it' bid for Luka Modric, which has been rejected, according to ESPN sources.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has set the price for the Croatian midfielder at around £40 million, though £35 million (plus success-dependent add-on clauses) would be enough to clinch the deal.

So, it looks like Juventus and City are out of it for RvP, which leaves United alone at the top of the list of potential buyers, I would think. I'm not sure Arsenal will sell him to United, though.

Then I guess it's a good thing they won't be playing each other anymore. Not having that rivalry is going to hurt the SPL, that was far and away their most watched match every season.

That still has yet to be seen, and rangers only got relegated. The old firm could be back at it by 2014

It would take longer than that wouldn't it? They're in the 4th tier right now. Is there some sort of appeal that they are waiting on that could get them back in the SPL without having to work their way through all the higher leagues. Still, with their brand and that huge stadium, you would think they should be able to blow away the competition in the lower tiers because of having more money to throw around.

It's third tier, and yeah, as mentioned at least two seasons could be devestating for SPL. Usually they have one other side on a decent stretch whether it's Motherwell or Aberdeen or whoever, but recently it's just been the Old Firm

I suppose it's settled that they're third tier though. They did manage to retain a significant chunk of their first team (including Bocanegra) somehow, they're still playing at Ibrox so they'll be back to the SPL in two years time.

The Third Division is the 4th tier. It's SPL, 1st Div, 2nd Div, 3rd Div, which is a confusing and stupid nomenclature. So the earliest they would be renewing their rivalry with Celtic, short of playing friendlies, would be 2015. That's going to suck for the SPL and soccer in general, because that's one of the better rivalries in Europe.

I'm seriously not going to be able to watch La Liga games, because Bein Sport is going to **** up their launch. Right now, it appears they only have deals with the satellite providers.

Whoops I kept reading it as third tier.

Then, three years out. They still have a strong side and can still compete in cup competitions. I'm guessing they will be rotating in more reserves in league games as long as they can stay top table, and running full strength into the Scottish cup.

It's going to be impossible to find any places that will show a soccer game, instead of SEC football, or NFL games. And the majority of the games I watch during the week are recorded, so it's not like going to a sports bar will be of any help. FU Arabs.

Gonna have to start watching the EPL instead. :)

I actually watch the EPL quite a bit. Actually, more than La Liga. I normally only watch Madrid, Barcelona and Bilbao games. I watch tons of EPL games, especially on Saturday mornings when nothing interferes with watching it.

It's a really great read. There are a few stories that you have to take with a grain of salt because they are all second hand information that the author didn't actually witness (the most famous of which is the "eyeball" story). But his first hand accounts of being at the World Cup in Italy are amazing to read.

As for the Old Firm, I was always heard the crowd described as 1/3 Catholic, 1/3 Protestant and 1/3 Cop.

Didn't wake up early enough to catch the gold medal match, but definitely a surprising result especially considering Mano Menezes was essentially working out for his own job. He might not be the Brazilian gaffer by 2014.

SAF missed United's match in Germany today to tend to Official Club Business. I hope this translates to he was locking up RvP.

Fergie met personally with AW today. United are expected to make an improved bid of over £20 million with add-on's in the next 48 hours. Hopefully, this will finally yield a breakthrough for United.
