The Atlanta Braves (thread 1)

They took away the first one. It was a bad hop.

The second one looked like a guy with a utility man's arm playing 3rd. Just a pitiful throw.

Yeah. You can't be too hard on Conrad because he is trying his best, but he should not be considered as a solution for the rest of the year. Something has to be done. I hope...

I don't think any NL team will win the WS. But I think the Braves have a decent shot to make it there. So I do think the Braves have a lot to lose. If the Braves had problems with Escobar's clubhouse issues, I couldn't imagine they would even consider Manny.

I can't imagine they would consider it either. But if I were arguing with Wren about it at a bar, I'd point out that Escobar was a long-term, festering problem on an otherwise healthy and whole team, whereas now the team needs to replace a big bat, so they could probably grit their teeth and deal with somebody's different, all-new BS for one month only.

(Also, there's not much question that if Escobar had been hitting like Ramirez -- or even an singles-only .300 -- that he'd still be on the team.)

With any luck, Martin Prado will be manning 3rd base by Wednesday if not sooner.

Defensively, yes, but I am still uncertain about that injury for his hitting. You can't bank on him coming back and leading them to the playoffs even though that may very well happen. I'd like to see a move made if possible. The games played now count every bit as much as those after Prado comes back and if Conrad uncorks another two run bad throw... You don't usually win those...

I hope he is able to perform the way he has up until the injury. It just makes me uncomfortable.

I seriously doubt that's going to happen, but if he can just manage to hit about .280 and get on base, it's going to help a lot.

Here is my question.

We have a great bullpen. Is this the lineup now?

Moylan--7
Saito--8
Wagner--9

I know it is situational. Just wondering if Kawakami and Farnesworth/Venters how it is going to shake on out for the end run?

Venters is being used interchangeably with Moylan according to matchups and has also gotten the 8th inning on some nights since Saito doesn't pitch on back to back days. Also, O'Flaherty should be back soon as a lefty specialist.

Kawakami is in AAA and I doubt we see him until the rosters expand Sept 1st if at all.

gotta love the braves, and who knows. sometimes a injury to your star player can pull your team closer. Where they play harder for each other and come out with scrappy wins like tonight.

I've heard they may be trying to get Aramis Ramirez. I have seen it a couple of places but for the life of me I cant find it. This would at least solve our 3b problem.

It was posted over at Talking Chop. Apparently, there was some truth to the rumor, but the whole thing fell through. It looks like we didn't sign two draft picks because of it. :(

I missed Minor's debut the other night, but I can't imagine him pitching much better than tonight.

He wasn't that much worse the other night. The only difference was that he gave up a couple of soft bloop hits before the back-to-back doubles, so it ended up as (I think) four runs instead of two. He has been outstanding all the way around so far.

Sure would be nice to sweep the Nats, wouldn't it?
