I'm glad Omar is capable at leading off. I'm loving Prado lower in the lineup, he'll get way more RBI opportunities. He could put up some really good numbers the rest of the way.
If the offensive core of this team for the next five years is going to be Prado, Heyward, McCann, and Freeman, as I think we all assume it is, then the one absolute imperative for Wren is to do whatever it takes to add a long-term, power-hitting righthanded bat to break those lefthanded bats up. You can't go L-L-L at 3, 4, and 5 without it biting in you in the arse.
"According to David Kaplan of CSNChicago.com, the Braves are close to acquiring Derrek Lee.
Kaplan calls the deal "nearly done." Lee reserves the right to veto any trade -- and reportedly nixed a deal to the Angels last month -- but sources tell Kaplan that he will be willing to waive his no-trade clause because the Braves are in first place in the National League East. The Braves are hurting after the loss of Chipper Jones, but we're not sure Lee is a significant upgrade over Troy Glaus at this point. It could certainly happen, but we'll believe it when we see it. Would Glaus play third if this happens? Interesting.
Oh good grief! Is Glaus even capable of playing 3B at this point??
The way i took it is that Lee would platoon for Glaus. Glaus doesnt have the arm or legs to play 3rd anymore. I personally like the move, Lee is a leader in the club house, smthing that might be missing now that Chipper is out. Plus it gives Glaus time to rest and perhaps able to get back to his form in May and early June.
