The bad part about the B.J hire

How about this, 45-23 Dooley beats this guy. What is your argument for that?

So what you're saying is that because of 1 game, a coach with a record of 32-41 is automatically better than a coach with a 50-27 record? Is that what you're saying? REally???

The bad thing about this is he runs a "big 12" or "non SEC" type of offense, that is not what we need. We need a balanced offense with a great Defense if we want to compete in the SEC. Im afraid with Jones we will be just like last years team, score points but give up a whole lot more then we score. I hope I am wrong but the SEC is a conference that you need to be able to run at will and play great D! Look at the teams that are successful? Hell look at the NC this year. Bama- Runs the ball great and has the Best Defense in the nation... ND- Runs the ball and plays great D! I hope this works out but all I see is we will be in the same position in 3 years..... looking for a new coach and buying out yet another staff. With that I will still support Butch and I really hope he proves me wrong because you have no idea how bad I want to see my VOLS win. Actually you do, I can speak for all of us, WE JUST WANT TO WIN! So good luck Butch I really hope you turn this ship in the right direction, I just don't think the scheme he brings fits the SEC, that's just my opinion. But GO VOLS! Here is to hopefully a much better year!:hi:
We were 5-7 . Change is in need.

It did for Florida. The part of your post that I do agree with is that defense is going to be crucial. That's more important than anything we do on the offensive side of the ball IMO.

It all comes Back to the fact that to do well in that system in the sec you need a stud QB. When Tim Tebow left urban had a heart attack.

Out of shotgun, that crap won't work against the ELITE in the SEC

Do you not remember Florida winning the National Championship with Tim Tebow running this offense? You need to find something else to be negative about because your complaint above is not valid.

Yeah god knows We don't want to run an offense that has won UF two NC's and Auburn as well...Damn We would be really stupid to even think of doing that :shakehead:

You only go to prove why that garbage probably won't work here by citing those two examples. Short of recruiting/buying and all-time great to run it, the spread option hasn't been very successful in the SEC. I don't see anything from Jones past to indicate he's going to be able to recruit the greatest player in UT history to run that gimmicky offense. Did you watch the SEC championship game? UGA and Bama showed that sacking up and playing grown man football, where you line up and run it right at the other team is still the way to get ahead in the SEC. Not with this newfangled trash.

He ran the ball 55% of the time last year

So you think we should just line up and run it straight at Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU and most of the rest of the SEC and expect great success? Sure, that is how we achieved success in the old days, but then they all started recruiting better than us and it didn't work anymore. How has that worked out the past 4 years?

I have stepped back from the ledge after the presser and found it encouraging that he said you build you O around WHAT you have at qb. If he is anything like Brian Kelly he will learn how to change is offense for this league .

If we want to win that's what we have to do. We need to recruit players that have a shot at making that possible. Not put all our eggs in the basket of some BS gimmick and trickery. Just get people that can line up and beat them, until then, we won't be competing for conference championships again.

I am thinking about killing myself. I am a white 30 year old single male. I suffer bad from depression. I have for years. I haven't told myparents or siblings about my decision to end my life yet.I just don't have anything else to live for anymore. I want all of my pain and suffering to be lifted.

Don't put all your eggs on a football team. There is more to life than the Vols. Take the initiative.

Hey, man, I haven't seen you around enough to laugh this off as a joke.

I urge you to seek some help for your depression. I know it sounds cliche, but no matter how bleak it seems, things will get better.

Find someone you can talk to about your feelings.

If Bobby Petrino was still around, he would be laughing too.

Nathan Peterman could possibly flourish in this offense . I also believe d is way more important , o line is going to have to get quicker as well .

That is exactly my point. When Alabama, Georgia and Florida and now South Carolina consistently recruit better than us year after year, how exactly are we supposed to do what you are saying to do? CBJ's offense is not trickery. It does require a running game. When we recruit around 15th in the nation year after year due to our demographics, how do we run it in the mouth of the schools who recruit in the top five every year? It quit working for Fulmer and look what happened.

Also my argument is if we can get a player like those 3 you listed which is highly unlikely, then we could be successful.

Is it really that unlikely? The fact that those three have all been able to get those types of players in such a short time frame should tell you that it's not as much of a long shot as it appears to be on the surface.

So at this point are we just supposed to accept that we have no prayer of recruiting with those schools and resign ourselves to trying to win with smoke and mirrors? Because that's what the spread option is.

Is the ultimate goal to get to third place in our division? Because that's where both of those guys are/were. This isn't a sarcastic question, I'm dead serious. Do you feel that we are now such a devalued brand that we should just be happy finishing 3rd in the East?
