We are supposed to do what gives us the best chance at winning with the players we have. Running up the middle three times and then punting because you think that is the "SEC" way is not a recipe for success against the more elite teams. Go ask Coach Fulmer about this strategy. And what makes you think CBJ's offense is a spread offense?

The spread can work in the SEC, but recent history says you need exceptional talent at the QB position.

UF (and AU and TAMU) had/have elite QBs running the spread. In our case it didn't hurt to have Percy Harvin, and Aaron Hernandez as your 3rd option behind Harvin and Louis Murphy.

I'm sure Coach Jones is aware of our defensive woes.....not a single mention in this thread about a ball control offense that will control T.O.P......that's what we need to succeed. We do NOT need Big play offense out of the gate. 12-13 play drives taking 5-6 minutes off the clock will be his goal.....Cincinnati had some big plays, but when they were at their best, they WON in the trenches and T.O.P. I am sure that is what Coach has in store this year.....that's the only way he is going to survive this year, with the team he has.

Malzahn's offense will never work in the SEC. This guy is running a high school offense.

Stever Spurrier's fun and gun might have got him noticed at Duke. This is the SEC.

Oh I forgot about Dan Mullen.

Seriously though, here is the deal. When Miss. State hired Croom, I said he will never make it. Reason? Pro-Style offense. The problem? No pro-style players. I said MSU needs a coach who runs either an option or spread option because it produces yards and points without having to have pro-quality players at every position.
Mullen comes in, installs the spread option and the program is succeeding. And they are doing it with average recruiting. As State's success increases so does their ability to recruit better players.

Oregon is another example. Kelly is now getting better players, but Oregon still doesn't light up the recruiting world. The system permeates all aspects of the offense, and you can see how it produces. You take some of their tailbacks and put them in Bama's offense and they would not do well. Same with the QB.

Now CBJs challenge will be to see how the existing talent can best be used. He will have a pro-quality offensive line. Interestingly, Chaney implemented a LOT of one back runs out of the shotgun this year. In fact, by the UGA game UT had gotten pretty good at the zone blocking run scheme and was getting good production. UT didn't run much power I, even though they had a fullback and the type of O-line for it. But I think that had more to do with the no huddle.

There are better ways to deal with problems physical, mental or spiritual then giving up on your life. No matter your age or problem, you can reset and try anything again. Do not be so down on yourself. Again, what is going on?

Please do your research before putting up these ridiculous post. The only team....the only team that beat Bama this year was T A &M.......guess what kind of offense they run? Duhhhhh the spread. The coach in first year in the SEC Kevin Sumlin came from lowley Conf USA and goes 10-2 in his first year in the SEC. CBJ runs a run first pass second spread similar if not better than T A & M. It works and very hard to defend! Stop the nonsense please!

Maybe we could fold the football program and all the stress out of some peoples life.This guy is getting paid 3 mil a year i doubt if any on here can match that so just keep bringing all this brain trust maybe he will get scared and quit.

We are screwed on defense. You can't take all of Cincys coaches, move them to the SEC and then call them the best in the country. I just have a feeling we are setting ourselves up for failure.
