The "Big Fish" Quarterback Rumor

well maybe CLK had a change of heart. I wouldnt have any problem at all with a Crompton, Stephens, Lam and Mustain depth chart.

If it was Mustain, that would be a second year of eligibility lost, plus however long he has been at USC. Not very logical.

The cockiness of this staff and what they have said and acted so far with this tells me that they got someone and that someone is going to get a LOT of media attention when its announced...Remember, These guys do not do anything halfa$$ed...They want all the attention to be on that big orange T so whoever it is will be huge IMO....The suspense is killing me...Isn't it suppose to be revealed today?!?

I am not sure but if Mustain enrolls here. And then does not practice with team he may be able to get Grey shirt. I am really not sure of rules on that. If so he would have two years left to play. Maybe someone on here knows about Grey shirts better then I. I know the OSU QB before prior got one. That is how he was there 6 years lol.

Phillip Sims is not coming here. The guy LOVES Bama and wanted his teammate Evan Hailes to go there with him, but we all know that Hailes doesn't want to compete much so he didn't go. In all honestly, I believe that they are talking about Lamaison. Too many things point to it. If it is a transfer, we will see or possibly they turned someone. I think it's just a bad rumor to this point. If something was going to happen, there's no reason that it wouldn't have happened by now.

If this is true, this is either Newton or Hendrix. I would be shocked if it were Sims. The main reason behind this is that before he ever committed, we never pursued him and didnt even offer.

BTW, I was just joking when I said Mustain wanted to come here but was turned down. I just don't think he's nearly as good as he thinks he is.

Sab, I appreciate what you bring to the table, I really do. You are right and know more about recruiting than most, but like everyone else, you're not infallible.

Recall from the JS thread:

Post 5477

I understand that you re-thought and re-stated your position between those comments and JS' ultimate announcement, but it's pretty hard to ignore how adamantly you felt you were right in originally making these comments. Only to be proven wrong, and quite glaringly so, I might add.

It would seem fair to give other people the same breaks we give you, on those rare occasssions when you're found to be wrong. You know best how to act / treat others, but that's my $.02

Barring you know that this "big fish" doesn't exist (I hope that you do, so that we can move on), where's the harm in speculating as to who it might be?
Fair enough. I was privy to some inside info that steered me wrong. I generally trust my sources, but the coaches were way too confident that they were going to land Scroggins and I was only echoing their confidence. They missed. I missed. It happens.

I will also point you to this post that I made back in MARCH where I said we wouldn't get Scroggins. I should have stuck with my gut, but one tends to believe the coaches when they say they're going to land a guy and that's exactly the information that I was relayed.

I've made no secret of my love for Scroggins. I just don't see getting him away from the Left Coast.

I really don't get why you even bring this up in this thread though. I'm not sure what one has to do with the other.

The whole deal in the interview was that the transfer would have to sit out a year. Neither one of those guys would have to sit out a year when they come.

Anything about Lamiason at this point is going to be anti-climactic. I'd be surprised if its him.

If it was a transfer I would look at schools like Texas, LSU, and Bama. Last year J Jefferson started as a freshman for LSU and it is believed that Shepard(Freshman) will start over him. Not to mention they have 3 other freshman QBs and already got a commit from Zach Lee(TX) for 2010. Texas Has Garrett Gilbert maybe the number 2 QB behind Barkley as a freesman this year with Conner Wood and McCoy coming in 2010. The word in Texas is that Case is the second coming of his brother. So if I was Gilbert might not be to happy with the situation. At UA we have Star Jackson as a redshirt freshman this year to back up junior McElroy and maybe get some playing time. We also have AJ McCarron in for 2009 everyone thought would redshirt even though a top QB for the class but after summer camps and workouts it looks lkie he might be the backup instead of Star and with Sims coming in next year it doesn't bode well for Star. Just trying to look at a few for transfer who might not be happy where they are at. It might be easier to sway a player from the south than out west.

Probably because, like the rest of us, you make educated guesses the best you can, yet people hold it against you if you are wrong. It's all good though, in my eyes.

Do we honestly believe that we are entertaining a transfer? There isn't anyone I know of that has already been granted a release that we could be after. I'm sure the coaches learned from the Robert Marve mishap and wouldn't be tampering with players considering a transfer, much less be talking about it in public.

I don't disagree there at all. Thing is, I think it's someone that they can actively recruit. What if they have turned Heaps?? That would be a big fish that hasn't really been out in the open very much recently. That's just a guess, BTW.

well Barkley isn't coming here no chance.. i would have to guess its Hendrix, Paul Jones or Brunetti unless its a player that's going to transfer.

Dont forget but I believe Heaps is a Mormon which means he will be taking a mission trip soon during his college career. Does UT want a QB that will miss a year, or a QB that can be there for 4 straight years to help the program. Nothing against Mormons, but missing a year at one program might be fine but UT needs a QB they can develop and play for 3 to 4 years. I could be wrong they might get him and he might go on his trip next year while Lamison plays, but miss some development.

Heaps isn't going anywhere but BYU and you know that. I think it's a four year guy and it's probably a name we all know. I just don't think there is any way to ascertain who it may be. I guess it's fun for people to speculate. I enjoy laughing at some of the ideas.

I suspect this may simply be wishful thinking on the part of the coaches. Maybe someone is stringing them along. I certainly see no reason to keep it secret especially if it's a "whale" as has been suggested when we are in dire need of a boost to our offensive recruiting.

I'm sure there's legitimacy to what the coaches are saying, just count me in the "I'll believe it when I see it" camp.

Back when Heaps was the #1 target, this was all discussed. He even said in an interview that he would consider not taking the trip if he went to a school like UT. If he did take the trip, he'd be gone for 2 years, and its very possible he wouldn't come back the same person or player (see J.T. Mapu).

I think his faith keeps him solid to BYU personally, but if he were to change his commitment, I wouldn't let the possible mission trip keep me from being thrilled.

I really doubt that it would be Heaps. He showed up to the Elite 11 completely decked out in BYU attire. I think he is solid with his choice there. I have no idea who it could be, but just throwing out my observations.
