The "Big Fish" Quarterback Rumor

It's not negatively it is the facts. His religion is playing the key role in his recruitment and ultimately is what made his decision.
I'm from the Smokies so please don't take this as a general knock against K'ville or UT...

But have you ever been to the SLC area? There's nothing UT can offer a Mormon kid except for TV exposure better than what they can get at BYU. It is a beautiful place where at some times of the year you could snow ski in the morning and water ski in the afternoon.

I was out there recently and was pleasantly surprised... still turned off by the whole Mormon weirdness but the place was great.

I know I might get roasted, but I think this might actually still give us a chance with Scroggins. X mentioned USC having one of the best QB recruits for '11 in their backyard. You know USC will offer. I feel like this might force JS to think twice about his commitment. Plus hopefully by then, we will have something to show for on the field.

i dunno 'bout that one...only cuz JS said he called kiffin, but kiffin never returned his call. don't know if he was unavailable or more giving JS a big FU

We may have a big 2011 recruit on the line, but I don't think that X is hinting at it. There are other rumors out there about it, but I don't think that is X's angle.

:good!:

But back on topic, IF we get Bidgewater, does it really matter if we get a big QB in this class? .

Absolutely. You can recruit guys this year based on the QB you'll sign next year... and who will probably throw them most of the passes they catch.

The coaches will also make the point that while this class is weak, next year's isn't and that Bridgewater would be one of the top 2 or 3 this year.

If this is the case then it would be a good deal... much better than getting someone from this class who doesn't really measure up to what CLK wants.

One positive that came out of this "big fish" rumor is that is sure as hell took the sting out of losing Scroggins. That combined with "X"s blog actually makes me excited to see who this staff is going to real in.

See, thats MY theory...this was all just a smokescreen/deversion that was devised to keep our attention away from the fact that we lost JS.

The 'Big Fish' is Volnation, and we took it hook, line and sinker!!

Well the staff did a pretty darn good job then IMHO. We all fell for it. But at least give them credit for calling us a "big fish". They at least think pretty highly of us!:dance2:

Some of you all are pretty ridiculous. Last year, when Kiffin said no to Boyd and Petty and did not actively pursue any other QB's you all said " no worries, Kiffin has a plan and will sign a top notch QB in next year's class" and now that Kiffin has been unable to get a top notch QB to commit (still think he might be able to get one to sign, but who knows) you all are saying, "thats okay, Kiffin has a plan, this class isn't that great, we will get a top notch QB in 2011...."

where did you get all of this?
this is the first i have heard that any major college is making a hard run at munchie
and i feel like we are making too big of a deal out of the prater/fulton/milton friendship thing

but idk.

David Reeves has been to see Munchie compete and throw at least 5 times and they have a good relationship.

No, we are not making to big of a thing about the relationship, just look at Scroggins and Bailey for example. There parents are VERY close, and coach Orgereon is very confident that Prater will be a VOL.

IMHO I think X will state that Newton committed. He fits all the criteria. I also think that it is possible that we already have Bridgewater on the hook. I don't think Bridgewater is what X is talking about because I don't think the staff would have him announce this early in the process.

I don't get where this is coming from, with regard to the announcement of a QB commit. As far as I can tell, X has not suggested that he is going to reveal a QB commitment.

As for Newton, he says in his most recent update that the staff is going for round 2 on a lot of guys in the 2010 class and if they strike out on swaying them, then they might look at Newton again.

Just curious, but where are you getting your info (no names of course). It seems like you've gotten this source recently.

The best way to sway them would be to get a couple more receivers to commit and get the OL stacked ASAP. Once that is done, someone will turn our way. It's to good of an opportunity.

agreed. get milton commited soon...prater (doubtful, but hopeful)
i'm beginning to think that's the way we're heading. how could a top QB, who wants to play soon, pass up an opportunity like that? i still have faith that CLK and staff have things under control...and no, i don't drink anymore than the recommended daily allowance of orange koolaid!

Um guys think about this. dont be quick to slam it as just rumor...we just had a 4 star wide out commit to us...now why would he do that if he thought we where not getting a good QB??

So, just for the record. You are saying that the big fish is a 2011 guy?

The coaches won't say just who it is, but it is believed to be Wittek or Bridgewater. They feel confident that they can turn a Brunetti or Bray and may take Newton or Leguax. They are going to take two QBs this year and a big name next year.

Cool, thanks. I'd take Brunetti and Newton all day every day.

"X" didn't say crap. All he did was throw out possible scenarios that could make someone not so big want to transfer.

Under a microscope from who? The guy was a national top recruiter while he was at South Carolina...I don't think he was brought on to coach qb's, he was just given the same title he held at s-car, where he had pretty limited duties as far as coaching qbs I'm sure.

Coach Reeves is doing a better job than people give him credit for. He is like Cutcliffe, he will work with you until you get it right. Not like Dave Clawson that will work with you til you screw it up and try something totally different from what he tried to teach you to start with. There will be a huge different from Crompton of 08 and Crompton of 09.

I'd like to know what you're hearing the QB board looked like from the start. This is my assumption...

1.) Heaps
2.) Bell
3.) Scroggins
4.) Brunetti
5.) Rees

That's just going off reports of when they got offers. If so, and we turn Brunetti....I think that's a job well done.
