They don’t scare me either . . . But to me this could be the scenario:OSU doesn’t scare me where we play them. If it’s bad weather in Columbus Sampson will have a heyday.
They should pick the easiest schedule every year from here out. There is no incentive to ever play a tough team again from a top conference. They will have guaranteed a slot no matter how easy their schedule is.Notre Dame should never be higher than last in, join a conference or suck it up lucky charms.
Yeah I think I posted the wrong link. But what I understood was that teams inside the top 12 not playing in conference championships will not move, as there are no data points to move them up any. And I took it to mean he was talking directly to osu and Tennessee in that response. I’ll try to find itI listened to the quote - he didn't say what some folks think he said. There will be movement based on the outcomes of the championship games. And there has to be. There will be no data point to move a team not currently outside of the top 12 into the top 12 other than those playing in the championship games.
He did not say the positions of those playing in the championship games are protected - at least not in this response.
Yes, a team outside the top 12 not playing a conference championship game cant move up. Also no team in the top 12 not playing in a conf. championship game can move up over another team who also isnt playing in a conference champ. game.I listened to the quote - he didn't say what some folks think he said. Because there are now three conference leaders behind us (ACC, G5, Big 12), and two of those will get a bye. Last week the ACC leader was ahead of us and there was only one “bye” team behind us (Boise State). We were ranked #8 in the CFP last week and seeded as the number 9 seed...this week we moved to #7 and still the 9 seed is what I'm saying. I wasn't referring to the AP poll
I doubt the committee considered this but Miami really had 3 losses. Refs literally gave them the Va Tech game. It was over as called on the field and the refs overturned the play with zero clear evidence to do so.Well here's my guess but read the end and it will show the committee is a bit inconsistent.
Miami 10-2 SOS 55 and SOR 14
Bama 9-3 SOS 17 and SOR 10
Bama is afforded an additional loss and still determined to be the better team because their schedule allowed for it in comparison to Miami's schedule.
Side note, all 16 SEC teams are in the top 32 in SOS. Miami 55, Clemson 53 and SMU 75. This is why a SEC 3 loss team is considered better than an ACC 2 loss team. The entire schedule is just significantly more difficult in the SEC.
This is also why OSU 10-2 is ahead of UT 10-2.
OSU (SOS 26, SOR 6) is better (barely) than UT (SOS 28, SOR 7) in both SOS and SOR.
I say all this and the committee messes this up having SMU 11-1 (SOS 75 SOR 9) ahead of IU 11-1 (SOS 65 SOR 8).
My only guess is SMU is getting a bump for making their conference championship game whereas the others compared above are all staying home this weekend.
Just my 2 cents
Yes, there is no chance we will move ahead of Ohio St. The only movement will be by teams playing in the conference championship games. Also, for those folks who keep hammering away at the idea that losers of the championship games won't drop in the rankings, he just said that is the only remaining movement to be made. Also, Warde Manuel was specifically asked if SMU could drop behind Alabama if they lose and he said "potentially, yes". Two things to take from that: They will absolutely consider punishing a CG loser up to and including completely dropping out of the field, and SMU had better win if they want in because Bama is staying in.Yeah I think I posted the wrong link. They don’t make the rules, they just play football and did what they had to do with the parameters all of the leagues agreed upon. Don’t hate the playahs, hate the game.We were all so excited about a 12 team playoff in college football. And then here we are with SMU, Indiana, Arizona State, and Boise State in the field.
This is a good point. Everyone in the national media will be talking “wIlL SoUtHerN tEaMs bE abLe tO HanDLe tHe cOLd?” In a cold-weather, smash-mouth game where the focus is defense and running the ball, I think we have an advantage.OSU doesn’t scare me where we play them. Only the first round is on campus, so Autzen is off the table. I doubt that it’s a more intimidating environment than Neyland, though likely up there with Neyland and Death Valley for noise.Ohio state is a scary team to play at idc what takes you reply with it is what it is, penn state and Oregon also are deafening
Lovely how TN gets to play at the 4th loudest stadium and loudest (oregon>vols>penn>ohio for decibles)
