The Braves Thread

Bama is tier 1. Expectations are going to be insane there, but they have a ridiculous amount of boosters throwing money around there. Hell they have so much pull you can be involved in a murder and not get charged, or get pulled over with weed and a gun and have the charges dropped.
Texas is tier 1 too much money and talent close by.
Florida I think is high tier 2. You can go 20 minutes in any direction and find a hot bed of talent. You have to really suck there to not win 6 or 7 games a year.
TN is tier 2 behind Florida. We just don't have enough good local talent to be any higher.

It’s not close to on plane with the Texas job.
If we’re talking national brand and page views, I agree, but if we’re talking about the football program and chances of regularly competing for nattys (and the ease of doing so) LSU is absolutely right there.

They have more resources than anyone. I assume this is a forward looking conversation, and now as part of the SEC, there is no parallel.

There’s a reason SMU is competitive with most everyone seemingly overnight. They have the money to do whatever they want.

In terms of wanting the job or what

Alabama is as tier 1 as it gets unless you don’t want to be the guy living in sabans shadow

I hate them but Texas is tier 1 without a doubt. You could make the same case for A&M but with less historical accomplishment.

Oklahoma is too high. Mississippi State is way too high.

Right now Bama isn't tier 1 trying to live in Saban’s shadow.

Texas is a great job but I would hate having to deal with the money. Sark seems to handle it well but it buried the last 3 coaches before him.

Miss State isn’t Vanderbilt. They’re definitely 15. And their fans are pretty reasonable.

This is definitely a right now tier though. Before Kiffin I thought Ole Miss was a complete dead end

Also, I think it is worth mentioning how much OU has slipped on this tier relative to where they were in the Big 12. Maybe this is easy to say after the season they just had, but that job I think is way less attractive now that they are in the SEC despite their brand and great historical pedigree. I think you've correctly got them as something close to a mid-level job in this conference. You could argue they should be above Auburn (I don't think I would, but you could), but I don't think you can make a great argument that they should be above anyone else in your list.

OU has actually punched above its weight as a program historically. Kind of like Nebraska, although perhaps not to quite the same degree. It has always been kind of curious to me that Texas has the advantage in the Red River Rivalry, but OU overall is the more successful program.

Now the two major Texas schools, along with OU, are in a conference with all the legacy SEC programs. I don't think they are as in as good of a position to poach Texas recruits anymore. Of course it makes sense financially and that's why they joined, but competitively on the field I don't think it is necessarily great for them.

Oklahoma has been consistently good since Wilkerson with a blip in the 90’s post Switzer. They have a ton of money, tradition, enough of a recruiting base. SEC might change that but I still think that’s a good job.

Their last 3 head coaches before BK all won titles, and 2 of those guys are complete dipshits.

They basically have a top 10 talent pool and a fence around the state with little resistance. They always give support, always have money/fans and again they aren’t Bama/Texas level expectations. If you asked me what job I’d want most in the SEC not considering my fandom they’d be 2 for me.

I could do a very quick and easy 1:1 on why Vanderbilt is a significantly better place to be in the current and future landscape but I see “I would hate having to deal with the money” in your post and will move on lol

Bro. You can go 6-6 there forever and be a God. Lea is never getting fired.
Lea probably could have gone 2-10 or 3-9 again this year but with the win over Alabama still probably would have increased his job security.

Vandy's expectations are so low that big individual wins in otherwise bad seasons keep coaches there. A big reason Mason stayed there as long as he did was because he beat us 3 years in a row, and 2 of those wins over us got them bowl-eligible that year. My BIL who is a Vandy grad (but Tennessee fan) said they were going to fire him after the 2017 season until they beat us, then changed their mind and decided to keep him around. Then they ended up beating us the next year too and went to a bowl, which let him withstand the 3-9 in 2019.

I don't know if it is still the case, but Louisiana had a streak several years ago where they put out the most top 500 football recruits per capita. More than Texas, Florida, or Georgia. It might actually be a better job than UGA.

"Les Miles and Ed Orgeron each won national titles there" kind of says it all. Les even played for a second and would have won if he didn't have the misfortune of having to play Saban again.

It is still a good job, but it doesn't stand out relative to as many other schools in the conference now.
