The Braves Thread

Catch and run guys. More guys that can make things happen in the open field. Even Thornton is a straight line guy. When was the last time squirrel caught a ball and made someone miss for a big gain? We don’t really have that

Velus the only guy this decade

lol wow. He was pretty lazy here but it’s funny how that’s not even an issue now? Coaching?

Even if it’s true, the fact the organization is so nervous about the narrative and how they’re portrayed that they gave Bowman that nugget TWO YEARS LATER to try and defend themselves is a major, major issue

Yeah this receiver class is pretty damn good. Jackson and Smith are YAC guys too

Was hoping this is what you meant. Closest thing we've had to YAC is Bru, and that's in a very different way.

I don't think squirrel has *ever* caught a ball and made someone miss haha.

The wiggle, given how much we find routes over the middle of the field and get corners isolated on the outside, could be excellent. Downfield stuff won't suffer too much... it's usually a guy running open rather than a 50/50 ball-winner type play.

Nobody named Bru has broken a tackle or made a man miss from a CB on one of those comeback routes in the last 2 years

The composition of our WRs has always baffled me and why I’ve never liked them

The entire offense is predicated on space and we’ve had practically zero guys who can win in space

I understand the allure of a guy like Bru at 6’3/230 and saying “hey put him outside and let him win some on deep balls and comebacks” but especially this year he doesn’t have the juice to really beat guys deep. What he’s awesome at is perfect for the slot. Win against smaller dudes, tough catches over the middle, use your strength to break tackles and we don’t use him like that.

Bru is an offensive lineman for us

The receivers are an after thought

You send them all the way to the sideline to drag defenders out. You get a numbers advantage in the run game. You make the defense tell you if they are in man or zone. You ask them to win blocking on these screens, swings and bubbles.

They’re interchangeable. They’re schemed open downfield. Until you run into teams willing and able to man them up. We struggle to beat man.

Squirrel is doing this thing this year where he leaves his feet every time to make a catch. I thought for a while perhaps he was doing that to make it easier to catch since his shoulder is shot, but he does it on catches where he doesn't have to lift his arms above his shoulder too.
