The Bruce Pearl Rally (merged)

reading hundreds of rumors from supposed "experts" and "insiders" on a message board who know no more than I do does not qualify one as having a "legitimate opinion" on what should happen with Pearl.

1- we've taken an unbelievable beating in the press that we would have largely avoided if he was fired initially.
2- our recruiting for this past class and the next two has taken an unknown but significant hit.
3- this season was doomed from the beginning... we gained nothing from keeping him around.
4- we have no idea if the NCAA will even consider the fact that we fired or didn't fire Pearl... some are assuming this with no real knowledge of its validity. It very well be that our punishments will not be effected at all.

So you think if we were going to fire him, it should have been in September, not now?

So, in other words, you can't offer a justification for keeping him.

still "legitimate opinions"... you may not agree with them, but they still have the right to support the man and pine for what might have been! Again, my position is that the "pearl haters" don't understand that many have and continue to support him... in spite of their hate.

You seem to think everyone wanting Pearl gone was one of these Pearl haters. I fully supported CBP before this mess, but now the best choice is for him to go. He created this mess, now he's got to face it. For those who continue to support this idea of giving him a second chance, I suggest they do their research. They need to read the NCAA loa and see what exactly it is Pearl is accused of doing. I think some are missing key facts. I also think they should see what the NCAA has done to other basketball coaches in similar circumstances. It isn't pretty.

Well, let's hear a justification for it, and then maybe you'll have a point.

how is him saying that some people think we are better off with bruce going to be justified? since you seem to be the know all on this subject maybe you should be the AD

My point is that I'm not in a place to know what is best for the program in this situation. There are way too many variables. What I do believe is that IF the ncaa is not going to crush us for keeping Pearl that we are better off with him. Beyond that, who knows.

Dang...missed my chance, should have hooked up the trailer and sold some corn-dogs. Also had enough people to turn on the hot diggity hot dog roller...BANK.

Hi I'm Steven Harvey. Today I am reporting that when I poured water over my head, I did indeed get wet.

That's certainly reasonable.

Yea, if you have an opinion that doesn't include loving Bruce Pearl, that means one is a "know it all" that should be AD. I wasn't insulting the guy; I was asking him a simple question.

That's where it falls apart. You and I both know they didn't.

Actually, it doesn't. They know it was a BBQ. They know he lied about it to the NCAA, maybe. The latest public railing was about the AD. My point is, if they are morons, what does that make the men in charge? The ones that actually know all the facts, and until last week supported Pearl all the way to the penalty phase.

If they keep him, I can't even describe how stupid I think it would be. So, I guess I agree with what you're saying.

no not at all, but i've read your posts on this subject and anybody who wants pearl to stay basically doesn't know what they're talking about by your standards.

No, I don't assume that at all. What I do see is a lot of folks who do still support him.... despite what some on here would have you to believe. What I want personally is what is best for the program. I freely admit that I am deeply disappointed in Pearl for his actions and expect more from our coach. But is firing him best for the program? Are his "sins" really as bad has the media would have us to believe?

This just makes me sick:

"IF HE GOES LET THEM SUCK ON A EMPTY ARENA NEXT YEAR. THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN GET AT THESE PEOPLE IS THRU THEIR POCKET BOOKS. IF HE IS GONE MY BLOOD WILL BE RUNNING BLUE NEXT YEAR."

That's absolutely not true. When people start the "everybody lies" argument, they clearly don't have a grasp of the situation. If they articulate a reasonable opinion just like the guy did in this thread, I'll just say I disagree but it's reasonable.

Oh, and the 100 people at the rally worked, according to Rob Huddleston:

"I know I said on here earlier that this was a done deal and all, but...

Meetings are going on now. I'm hearing that this might not be over, and that Bruce might not be gone. Seems that The Hill is starting to notice that our coach is kind of popular with UT fans..."

Look, this is going to hurt. So I'll be nice.

Your opinion doesn't matter. My opinion doesn't matter. Hat's opinion doesn't matter. It's up to the chancellor the BOT, and Jim Haslam. Either you can't stand to look at Pearl, or believes he should be banned from coaching for life, it doesn't matter. The higher ups have spoken, and they have given him the hook. It's done with.

Again, Where do you get your authority to tell us what Haslam and others are thinking? Where and when did they speak? Remember Hambone had to apologize so he was not speaking for them.
