The cancel culture is getting out of control

That's a line drawn in a school library. A subjective and undefined one at that. You are for the moderation of books in school libraries. I don't know of the context of the gay guys holding hands book but I know huckleberry fin and I agree with you on that but let's not act like you're not for intervention into the selections in school libraries.

Common sense should be used and that is very uncommon these days.

I like a variety of things.
Music changes over time.
If people don’t like it they should not listen.
If they feel the need to run down someone else’s art that doesn’t make them pure or special ….it just makes them a doosh

See the country music thread as an example. There dooshbagerey is a one sided fight

I guess I’m a bit more of a “traditionalist”. I’m okay with Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, etc. But those “Country artists” who are turning out those songs with absolutely stupid lyrics and/or a hip-hop beat…no thanks.

In the end, to each their own. Probably why I’m still a 1911 and .45 ACP fan. If it ain’t broke…

Yup.
I keep a 1911 in safes in 2 places in my house.
My point was that is ok to not like something. There is a lot of music I don’t like. Running down those songs and people because i don’t like them would not make me smart or superior. It would make me mentally weak. Fortunately I don’t need that crutch to feel better about myself

I honestly have no idea why you spent that much time responding to my post to agree that the school board is the government.

Who ever disputed that? The issue is that some don't seem to acknowledge that the school systems are part of that same government. Kind of hard to complain about a government imposing bans upon itself.

If a person imposes self-censorship, do they blame "the government"?

Reds minor league team pulls new t-shirt after fans say graphic draws close resemblance to racial slur

The Chattanooga Lookouts tried to make an update to its logo

A minor league baseball team discontinued selling a t-shirt it was after fans criticized the graphic for looking like a racial slur.

The Chattanooga Lookouts, the Double-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds, tried to combine its "Nooga" nickname and its logo of two eyes, and it did not go well.

Judge Says Arkansas Can’t Prosecute Librarians For Carrying ‘Harmful’ Books—After State Joined National Push To Restrict Books

^^^^ FORBES ^^^^

How are Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders attempts to prosecute librarians not a blatant example of "cancel culture?" These aren't school libraries we are talking about here ... but rather public libraries.

This not only fits into cancel culture, but it also reflects government overreach, and an intrusion into the daily lives of American citizens. This is what Rush Limbaugh used to refer to as creating a "nanny state," where parents can no longer be trusted to monitor the activities and interests of their children, so everyone must pay a consequence.

There was a time when Republicans were against big government intrusion and overreach. Those days are long gone.

Thanks for adding your usual “context”.

If you need additional context, just read the damn article.

I did. If librarians knowingly and willingly provide the material deemed inappropriate to minors that’s when it’s an offense. Just like like if a store clerk knowingly and willingly sells alcohol or tobacco to a minor. You don’t have to like the law but it’s not what you attempt to portray it to be. Typical looney leftist nonsense.

You are equating a book checked out of a public library with selling alcoholic beverages and tobacco products to minors. That is one of the most comically stupid analogies that I've ever seen.

Who has the power to decide what is "inappropriate?" It would likely be someone working on behalf of the government, wouldn't it? Hence, you have government overreach, and subsequently, an unnecessary intrusion into the daily lives of American citizens. This isn't the Republican Party mantra of smaller government with less regulation. It's just the opposite of that.

Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders law is typical right-wing hypocrisy and overreach.

It’s a perfect analogy and you don’t have to like the law. You calling it stupid is all the validation anyone needs to know it’s right.

You honestly believe that a librarian helping a kid check out a book, which some bureaucrat has deemed to be inappropriate (who probably didn't even bother to read it first), is the same thing as a store clerk selling alcohol or cigarettes to a minor?

It is an absurd analogy.

Only someone who is deeply invested in tribalism would make such an argument.

You don’t like the law. That’s fine. Nobody gives a s***. Just like the clerk, all the librarian has to do is follow the law and all is well. Again, NOBODY GIVES A S*** if you agree with it or not. You looney libs and fake libertarians think your views are all that matters and there should be selective enforcement of only laws you agree with. Hell you emotional wrecks even make up s*** just like you’re doing here.

The law is too vague, because the criteria of "inappropriate" is ambiguous .... and it's unclear who the arbiter of appropriateness is. Hence, it's not the law anymore. A judge has (at least temporarily) blocked it.

This law was a joke. Only someone who would approve and support anything sponsored by a Republican would defend it. You are tribal and incapable of looking past politics.

So my 8 year old son should be able to check out a PlayBoy magazine from the library? Libraries have DVDs too so he should be able to check out porn if the librarian wants to have it available?

R rated movies have age restrictions to it. CDs with explicit content. What's the difference ?

The law specifically cited "books."

We all know you’re for giving kids access to porn or exposing them to mental illness. How is it vague? This book isn’t intended for children under 10. Librarian doesn’t issue book to kids under 10. I know you emotion wrecks think you make up all the rules but you don’t. If you don’t think certain books are inappropriate for young children that’s something you’ll have to deal with. I’m sure it will never be an issue for you.

It's like some people have amnesia in regards to simple standards. It's astonishing how many are arguing for kids to have access to inappropriate material.

They look to be outraged wherever they can. Elementary school libraries already have age appropriate sections because a 5 or 6 year old is unlikely to read a 15 chapter book. I’m sure BB would prefer they have access to a nude trannie picture book. In addition to that classrooms also have book sections with age appropriate reading material. I bet his outrage doesn’t extend to the morons he voted withholding funds from schools that offer hunting courses.

Who makes the determination as to what is appropriate and what is not? The Arkansas state government? Because Sarah Huckabee Sanders strikes me as someone who is quite prudish in nature. "Inappropriate material" is such ambiguous criteria that is absurd to criminalize librarians for not adhering to such a vague standard.

What's next? Do we prosecute movie ticket agents for admitting kids into movies such as Brokeback Mountain? Shouldn't it be left up to parents to monitor what their kids do outside of school? These are not school libraries that we are talking about here ...

This is a classic case of government overreach. There was a time when Tipper Gore was ridiculed by Republicans for her crusade against "the corrupting influence of music on children." Republicans were right for doing that. However, Tipper Gore would be a perfect fit for today's Republican Party. Big government prudes and control freaks.

This is rich. LOL.

You don't have a shred of self-awareness about you. The people who are easily outraged are the people who want to ban books, and throw librarians in jail.

Typical looney leftist. There should be no standards of inappropriate material for minors and librarians don’t have the ability to follow the law.
