The cumulative Pearl thread

Do you want Bruce Pearl to be Head Coach at UT next season?

If Mike Hamilton is as good with money as people say he is, we won't have a problem hiring a good coach with the facilities we have and a relatively easy league to win in. Bruce has brought us a long way, but he's not the coach to lead us to a NC, period.

Seems true to me.

Nearly beat MSU, perennial powerhouse. Elite eight appearance. Made the tourney how many years he's been here? Wow y'all have a high standard for a basketball program that was nonexistent before Pearl.

If people want Pearl fired because of his NCAA issues or they just don't like him, then fine. But considering what he's accomplished during his tenure at Tennessee, it's absurd to call for his firing just because this team is struggling right now.

Thank you. People can have that opinion of Pearl. I can't say I agree with it.

If you don't have high standard in every sport, then why even play the game??

Agreed. I was fine with his cheating, but his lying was way out of line. Combine that with this PATHETIC excuse for a bb season and I think the dude needs to go. Half the staff has recruiting restrictions for the foreseeable future too. Time to cut losses, and try and right this floundering ship.

If Pearl is fired before the sanctions are announced, how is it expected to affect the sanctions that UT basketball receives? I would think they would be less severe, but people seem to think the sanctions will be similar either way. Anyone able to elaborate?

Also, please don't respond and say, "Bruce Pearl is the best thing to ever happen to UT basketball and firing him would send us back to irrelevancy." Not only would that be not true, it doesn't have anything to do with the thread.

I would hope they would be less severe. Even if BP gets fired, along with the football violations, we may get hit with LOIC......which in that case the firing of BP probably won't help

I don't think it will be a LOIC. Sounds a bit too severe for what are essentially a set of poorly handled minor violations.

I think it would have to lessen the sanctions. I think Pearl is going to get the brunt of the punishment anyway, and if the University takes that action, there wouldn't be a real reason to punish us severely.

Would they punish UT for waiting so long to make a decision?

We had our chance to fire him when he lied. Now it wouldn't have much effect.

I thought that we basically gave that up by sticking by him all season.

The firing of Bruce Pearl will hurt our program more than NCAA sanctions. Burce Pearl has completely transformed a dead program into a program that is a perennial tournament team. I just think some of you don't understand how bad it was before Pearl. Tennessee didn't go to the tournament every year. We struggled to make the NIT many years. I do not want to go back to those days. Especially over a damn barbeque.

Didn't make it through the first post?

Pearl should take most of the punishment. Tennessee didn't help itself by not firing Pearl in September, but it should turn out fine if Pearl is gone before next season.

I'm with you on this one. Totally agree.
