Do you want Bruce Pearl to be Head Coach at UT next season?

I don't know if he should be fired or not. Yesterday I would have said no.... Today I'm leaning towards yes.

The guy lied to the NCAA and, worse, called a recruit up and encouraged him to lie to the NCAA too. The guy had a weepy apologetic press conference and then went out and committed another violation four days later. Of course we should fire him.

I don't care if Vol basketball goes right back in the toilet. I care a lot more about the integrity of my alma mater than I do winning games.

+1 :clapping:

Well I want to win.....period! And Bruce Pearl gives us the best chance, we've already come so far in six yrs and his name alone to recruits is big and hes one of the most known and "KOOL" coaches around to young recruits. He needs to just learn how to cheat like Calipari without getting caught! We all know 99% of coaches cheat in one form or the other! and in no way do we get a coach that can take us were he can. We will be back to being a South Carolina like BB program.... Sorry but that's not for me!

In the LOA, on page 11, the NCAA alleges Pearl committed a violation by seeing a prospect at his high school...four days after the press conference announcing the penalties.

The timing might be right where I can blame this one on a relative. Bruce visited our local high school after the press conference announing the self imposed sanctions. My relative tracked him down and had her picture taken with him, and of course told everyone within 10 zipcodes.

Good points but Calamari left every school prior to getting the NCAA crap ..see UMASS and Tiger High

Unethical conduct charge = show-cause order. It won't matter whether UT or anyone else wants to continue to stand by Pearl. The NCAA will force Pearl out of UT and out of coaching altogether for a few years.

I don't want to lose Bruce Pearl, but if he knowingly cheated three days after his press conference then he is a hardened cheater and needs to go now.

I have consistently argued in Pearl's behalf, but if this is true I am over it. Let's fire him in the most advantageous way possible and hire the best available guy in the country on OUR timetable. I understand hypocrisy when the time periods do not overlap, it's called repentance or --at best-- being inconsistent. But if you lie WHILE cheating then you are a hypocritical liar and should not be a "leader of young men."

I understand you point. However I completly disagree.

If this isn't reason enough to fire CBP, what is?

What is the difference between CBP and Kiffin? One coach had an offer from another school and took the offer. One coach knew he had an offer from a school and forced UT into a bigger contract. One coach caused serious heartache by lying to NCAA officials. Acctually two did. One coach has left tennessee and we are feeling the effects of his mishandling and outright disrepect for the NCAA. One coach is still at tennessee and we are feeling the effects of his mishandling and outright disrespect for the NCAA. Those are facts.

If Pearl is gone from Tennessee we won't become SC. Our alumni don't like to loose. We have money and we like to spend it. We can afford another coach more than most programs. We have better facilities than any other program.

It will take time to get a good coach that can lead us to the promise land. I feel very confident that this university has everything they need to accomplish that task.

Me too. The post-sob violation--IF TRUE-- reveals Pearl's true character. Maybe I am a slow learner, but I wanted to believe that Bruce Pearl would change. Clearly, he won't.

Everyone needs to quite fooling themselves if they dont think the majority of coaches commits violations. Calhoun proved that. The worst thing BP did was get caught!! D-1 college coaching, football or basketball is a cut throat business and I'm sure much worse goes on through out the country.

Wait, I wasn't agreeing with him. In my post I stated that most people only care about sports and are blind to the fact that this is an institution of higher learning. I think Pearl should've done been canned. I was being sarcastic to him in that he said basically what I was complaining about.

Thanks Tripper.....did not see that, this answers a lot of my questions

We self reported, and I believe everyone thought it was a secondary except the NCAA which has to make you think something is not kosher with the ordinary "bump" rule.

One thing that doesn't occur to people is that this is a university of higher learning. It serves a much higher purpose than just to win a few ballgames. This whole mess with the cheating and sanctions and NCAA is only hurting the university's image. I'd much rather lose more games and do it cleanly, than win a championship by cheating and hurting this university's image. Because, in the end that's all sports are, a game, just entertainment and nothing more. Championships are fine and dandy but, really do they make your life better? Do they give the students a brighter future just because the sports teams are good? Bruce Pearl caused a negative light to be shone on the university, it's not worth the negative publicity just to win a few more games. Besides, whose to say the next guy won't be better, Pearl's not the end all be all of UT basketball. /rant

So do you have over 13,000 posts on the WorldNation site, dedicated to all things important on our planet?!! :)

I feel I can be a sports fan but still keep sight of what's really important :hi:

I know. Just ribbing a bit. I think most people can and I also think anyone looking to get an engineering degree couldn't care less about whether the basketball program is in the news, good or bad. People still got degrees from SMU after the death penalty.

True, but parents will be less nervous about sending their baby to a university that is clean. I just hate to see the university itself be thought of negatively due to something as irrelevant as sports.

Maybe its selfish but we need to win..paying millions to coaches for mediocrity doesn't cut it! This crap is inexcusable, but if the sanctions don't ban us from post season (bball)then we should be fine. The University image is what it is..thank you espn.:) The main thing is to get past this storm and show up in basketball and football.. We didn't pay players or did anything that actually helped us. CBP's life remains in the hand of the NCAA and we will know his fate this Summer. Till then Pearl needs to Coach and get this team playing like their is no tmrw. He has done it before and it could be his last. Go Vols

If parents can't see that winning championships isn't what's important in life, then we don't want their kids here! Even if they are 5*'s! :)

I'm disapointed Pearl felt he had to do what he did. He has been penalized. He may get penalized some more. But I like him. I'm pulling for him. I say keep him.
