The guy lied to the NCAA and, worse, called a recruit up and encouraged him to lie to the NCAA too. The guy had a weepy apologetic press conference and then went out and committed another violation four days later. Of course we should fire him.
I don't care if Vol basketball goes right back in the toilet. I care a lot more about the integrity of my alma mater than I do winning games.
In the LOA, on page 11, the NCAA alleges Pearl committed a violation by seeing a prospect at his high school...four days after the press conference announcing the penalties.
Well I want to win.....period! And Bruce Pearl gives us the best chance, we've already come so far in six yrs and his name alone to recruits is big and hes one of the most known and "KOOL" coaches around to young recruits. He needs to just learn how to cheat like Calipari without getting caught! We all know 99% of coaches cheat in one form or the other! and in no way do we get a coach that can take us were he can. We will be back to being a South Carolina like BB program.... Sorry but that's not for me!

Thanks for making my point :hi:
I don't know if he should be fired or not. Yesterday I would have said no.... Today I'm leaning towards yes.

I understand you point. However I completly disagree.
If this isn't reason enough to fire CBP, what is?
What is the difference between CBP and Kiffin? One coach had an offer from another school and took the offer. One coach knew he had an offer from a school and forced UT into a bigger contract. One coach caused serious heartache by lying to NCAA officials. Acctually two did. One coach has left tennessee and we are feeling the effects of his mishandling and outright disrepect for the NCAA. One coach is still at tennessee and we are feeling the effects of his mishandling and outright disrespect for the NCAA. Those are facts.
If Pearl is gone from Tennessee we won't become SC. Our alumni don't like to loose. We have money and we like to spend it. We can afford another coach more than most programs. We have better facilities than any other program.
It will take time to get a good coach that can lead us to the promise land. I feel very confident that this university has everything they need to accomplish that task.
GBO
One thing that doesn't occur to people is that this is a university of higher learning. It serves a much higher purpose than just to win a few ballgames. This whole mess with the cheating and sanctions and NCAA is only hurting the university's image. I'd much rather lose more games and do it cleanly, than win a championship by cheating and hurting this university's image. Because, in the end that's all sports are, a game, just entertainment and nothing more. Championships are fine and dandy but, really do they make your life better? Do they give the students a brighter future just because the sports teams are good? Bruce Pearl caused a negative light to be shone on the university, it's not worth the negative publicity just to win a few more games. Besides, whose to say the next guy won't be better, Pearl's not the end all be all of UT basketball. /rant
I feel I can be a sports fan but still keep sight of what's really important :hi:
I know. Just ribbing a bit. I think most people can and I also think anyone looking to get an engineering degree couldn't care less about whether the basketball program is in the news, good or bad. People still got degrees from SMU after the death penalty.
True, but parents will be less nervous about sending their baby to a university that is clean. I just hate to see the university itself be thought of negatively due to something as irrelevant as sports.
