The Dallas Cowboys football circus thread

Wow. Just looked up the numbers...

Cowboys rank #31 in turnover differential. -5 on the season. -1 per game.
Cowboys rank #32 in penalty yardage. 404 on the season. 80.8 per game.

Lost by 3 vs. Vikings
Lost by 6 vs. Redskins
Lost by 7 vs. Bears
Lost by 7 vs. Titans

Probably would have won all of those if not for the 80 yards of penalties and -1 in turnovers per game. That sucks for the Cowboys. So close.

Wow. 80 yards a game?! Maybe I should back off of slomo a bit....

No. Romo still throws picks just at the time when it's most important for him not to have a turnover.

This is one of the sloppiest most unpolished teams I've ever seen in the NFL.

The way bonehead penalties have cost them the last couple of games, it is almost like their players are in on the fix.

Also, considering that Phillips is a dead man walking, let's start coaching search talk.

Names I'm hearing the most:

Bill Cowher - Possibly, but Cowher doesn't have the personality to jive with Jerruh. Jones would have to exercise some leeway with Cowher, so unless there's near-immediate production, it could get ugly. Plus it's presumed that John Fox is out at Carolina at this point, who is in the middle of a season nearly as disastrous as Dallas'.

Jon Gruden - My personal favorite choice, and what miniscule hope there is to turn Romo into a championship quarterback probably lies with Gruden and the staff he could put together. Not sure whether

Brian Billick - Another name I like, and the type of disciplinarian that would do wonders for this team. He had immediate success with the Ravens and could turn this D into the elite machine that it should be, with a better defensive back or two.

Just heard John Clayton throw out John Fox as well.

With the first pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select...
We won't do that poorly, I'm seeing five wins this season. Lord knows we've got the spare parts to trade up and get Andrew Luck, but I can't shake the sinking feeling that Jerruh will draft Ryan Mallett.

I could deal with either of those 3 coaches. I do honestly wonder if Jones promised Garrett the job and will follow through if he did. We need a badass, take no crap coach. Wade reminds me of Fulmer.

The thing is Jerry has not worked well with badass, take no crap coaches.

I can't see a superbowl caliber coach coming to Big D ending any other way than a fruitless power struggle that will end in failure, unless Jones has finally figured out that hiring patsies and running the team himself doesn't work, which I doubt.

I'll be shocked if Mallett for forgoes his senior year.

He'll be able to ride sheer size and arm strength to a first round pick.

Conventional wisdom is that if you're reasonably sure you can get picked in the first round, you go out.

This might all be screwy if the NFL gets locked out next season though.

Jerrah would be a fool to take a QB if he gets a very high 1st round pick. The biggest needs are Oline and secondary. The line isn't terrible, but Romo's mobility hides their mistakes a lot.
I hope we take at least 2 linemen early, although if Patrick Peterson is still on the board, I'd be very intrigued. Dude is a freak and I'd gladly shop Newman if we took PP.

Newman is done soon anyway. Luckily there seems to be a lot of talent at cb in the 2011 draft.

Just wanted to drop by and congratulate you all on your season so far.
