The Dallas Cowboys football circus thread

Said it before, I'll say it again. I think Prince Amukuamara will be great solely because he has one of those unusual great NFL names.

I agree with you. The name just sounds solid. I also think he has a very solid game at CB. But that's just me. I have lately read that he is a bit overrated.

This is a bit from an article in my latest issue of ESPN Magazine. It talks about some overrated players going into the NFL Draft. Here is the article:

Some analysts say his 8.7 YPA last year was skewed by the 144 yards he gave up to Oklahoma State wideout Justin Blackmon, but Amukamara forced only 20 incompletions on 37 passes in his directon. He wasn't a shutdown corner in college; why would he be one in the pros?

If both of the top CB's are gone I like a move down to select an OT. San Diego is a prime trading partner. The Chargers have two seconds and thirds along with the eighteenth pick.

In a related topic I'm looking forward to the release of the 2011 schedule. The Cowboys slate looks something like this:

They need to play in Nashville soon.

I could also see them winning 10 games easy this year.

Fellow Cowboys fans. What I'm about to quote has made me a very excited person. I won't lie. I feel like a little boy on Christmas morning. The quote absolutely means nothing because I know Jerry Jones has went on record as saying he doesn't necessarily expect the Cowboys to trade up in the draft. But I can't help, but to be very happy. Patrick Peterson IMO is the best talent in the draft. I have thought since the NFL Combine that he is the person I want Dallas to draft. Again these quotes mean nothing because I'm sure there are hundreds of players that would love to play for Dallas (Texas A&M star OLB Von Miller being one), but I thought it was interesting enough to post.

Jerry Jones PLEASE take notice. Patrick Peterson has gone one record as saying he would "give it my all each and every play". That means something to me because I watched many Cowboy DBs last year who did not give it their all every play.

Anyway enough of my rant. I'm just excited for the draft. Here are the quotes:

“If the Cowboys come and get me, I cannot explain the feeling that I would have,” Peterson said Wednesday in New York, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s Charean Williams. “That’s the team I always dreamed of seeing myself playing for. If the Cowboys come up to get me, that means they risk a lot – they put a lot on the table to come up there and get me, so I definitely would go there and give it my all each and every play.”
Peterson told the Star-Telegram’s Williams he still considers the Cowboys to be “America’s Team” even though they haven’t won a Super Bowl since beating the Steelers in the one played after the 1995 season. “They’re America’s Team. I mean, Deion Sanders, Michael Irvin, Troy Aikman. The best played for that team,” Petersons said. “Playing for that team, just having that star on your helmet. I mean, I know those guys feel good every time they buckle their chin strap and know that you’ve got the star and America is watching you.”
-Patrick Peterson.

I would like to see them pick up Peterson but I don't see it happening. They need to bring in a whole new secondary cause last years sucked at best.

Peterson will be gone by the fifth pick and Dallas can ill afford to give up multiple picks this year and next to move up. Prince Amukamara would be nice consolation prize at 1-09.

I wouldn't be disappointed if Dallas took OT Tyron Smith or moved down with San Diego or New England to take the likes of OT Anthony Castonzo.

I'm not high on a DE although somebody like Nick Fairley would be hard to pass on.

Not a big fan of Dallas' draft this year. Scratching my head over Murray in the 3rd round. Now I think he is a great talent and loved watching him play at OU, but we have 3 productive RBs already on the roster. And we already have 1 RB on the roster (Felix Jones) that is very similar in playing style. I like Murray as a player, but I don't understand why we needed another RB. I guess Barber is bye-bye.

Also why are we waiting to until the 5th round to address our terrible secondary? I'm sure a 5th round CB out of Buffalo is really going to turn around our secondary. We need DB help immediately. I am guessing that Jerry Jones is very confident in our FA chances with Huff and Asomughi. I hope so because we need some help back there.

Also we once again take a LB coming of major knee surgery. It's still a question mark if Bruce Carter will even be ready for Training Camp. I hope he is. Supposedly has 1st round talent and would have been drafted in 1st round if not for injury. But there always is a big chance when drafting players coming off of knee injuries. I hope he pans out. Him and Sean Lee can learn from Brooking for a year.

Besides that I guess I'm okay with Tyron Smith at #9. Romo needs some help out there. Smith can provide that. I'd be interested to see where they put him. LT or RT. Just depends on what they are going to do with Free.

Most of the reactions are puzzled by the Murray pick. The justification will be that Barber's goose is cooked, Felix is injury prone and Choice is overrated. There were plenty of DB's I would of chosen since safety is the team's biggest deficiency. The saving grace would be the free agent signing of Oakland safety (and soon to be UFA) Michael Huff.

Fifth round pick Josh Thomas has above average cover skills. If he makes the team it will be as a dime back and special teamer.

The safety crop was terrible in this year's draft.

Murray makes sense because Felix is hurt every other week and Barber's gone.

Carter was a legit top 20 pick had he been 100% healthy.

Smith isn't really a road grader at tackle. I don't know if he'll be any better than average in the NFL because he's kind of soft.

Hopefully he can turn out... I don't think the draft was terrible. Fact is the Boys were nowhere near as good as advertised in most areas last season. WR's are great and d-line was solid, everywhere else could have used improvement.

Cowgirls suck :) (my dad, God bless him, is a Cowboys fan)

Hail to the Redskins!

Stay out of the damn thread until the season starts, troll (unless Jerruh does something, yet again, to embarrass the franchise)
