The disney insanity continues

I am all for citizens voting with their wallet regarding political issues. MLB moving the all star game is fine. It is a citizen speaking out against government action by punishing the state. The government does not get the same privilege. Good grief, we have a bunch of budding dictators in here.
Disney's stock is down 10% in the last month since they got into this little squabble with the state of Florida. If I recall correctly, Disney World opened up a good year ahead of Disneyland. Florida also sued the federal government to allow cruise ships to start operating again in Florida, of which Disney benefitted from.
So, exactly who is out to F whom here?

Well then tax the hell out of em. They have a sweetheart deal with tens of billions of revenue and a paltry $100M in taxes.

Would did you libs become so anti tax for corporate America?

Of course Disney builds it for less, they are excused from the red tape the rest of the world takes on.

At the end of the day, Disney shouldn’t be playing by different rules than everyone else.

Where the money comes from, Disney or county residents, is something that will get decided by county officials and by extension the residents.

Given your logic, the conservative haven northwest of Disney known as The Villages shouldn’t play by different rules than everyone else either.

What I have learned today... bunch of people round these parts that don't really care for the 1A.

They do, they just care more about disagreeing with things they perceive to be leftist.

*- The problem is that you (plural) have to try to force right wing media’s simplistic left/right dichotomy on everyone in the world. Your mind perceives people to be either left or right and you’re compelled to agree with right and disagree with left with few exceptions. Being seen to agree and disagree with the correct people is more important than any underlying principle…

Right/left = good/evil to them. Doesn’t matter what depths they sink to, as long as it’s in pursuit of thwarting the left.

All of that is great. Florida did its damndest to protect the businesses in its state. As the government should do its best to protect its citizens.

It's not a two way street. The government does not get to act punitively towards a citizens that speaks out against the government. You can bite the hand that feeds you without fear of recourse.

I notice a common theme that runs through your comments and its your belief that Disney should be grateful that the state of Florida helped it prosper. When Obama made similar comments about how the government made business growth possible... I cannot imagine you were there saying "damn right it did."

What was Disney's actual response?

Should a company stay silent when govt directly affects their workers? Lots of companies doing that lately yet they don't have this backlash

They used their 38 lobbyists to attempt to stop the passage of the "don't say gay" bill and are now using them to start the process of getting it repealed. Don't play politics and then try to hide behind "I'm just a business!" when the political mud starts to fly.

You hate the 1A just say it and you'll feel better.

I think it's bad policy in general, but I'm not sure it's really a 1A issue. The government hasn't really made a law that abridges free speech here.

No? I just don't want corporations to have a disproportionate influence on the laws that get passed or don't get passed while being completely untouchable from a political standpoint. "We're just a business, don't do politics to us!". Bullsh*t. Play politics, open yourself up to politics.

They have passed a law for the purpose of punishing a citizen for exercising free speech. I'd say there's an argument to be made.

Corporations are citizens. You are only for this because of the issue.

Nope. I seem to remember a lot of chatter about, "1A means you're free to say anything you want, but it doesn't mean you're free from the consequences of what you say".

An argument . . . yes. But I think it's shaky when the big stick is favorable tax treatment that's applied in a disparate manner.

Again - I think the whole thing is a dumb political idea that is hypocritical in the face of cancel culture.

Consequences from the public not the government. lmao. This really seems a difficult concept for a lot of you. Set the issue aside. It's unimportant to the argument.

We're about 10 pages from my challenge and not a single person has stepped up to say that they support the government silencing/punishing citizens for speaking out against the government.

I suspect it is because most of you know it's wrong. A few of you are too stupid to realize its wrong, but that'll never change.

That’s not the part that’s shaky.

“O'Hare Truck Service was one among several towing companies employed by the city of Northlake. Northlake kept a list of available towing companies and would only remove a company from its list after a showing of cause. In the present case, however, Northlake removed O'Hare Truck Service from its list because O'Hare's owner did not support Northlake's mayoral candidate in his reelection campaign. Instead, O'Hare's owner supported the opposition candidate. Upon removal from Northlake's employment list, O'Hare Truck Service filed suit alleging that its dismissal was a retaliation for its lack of support for Northlake's mayoral candidate. The dismissal was the cause of substantial loss in income.”

Supreme Court ruled for the truck service.

The shaky part in this case, IMO, is whether a court will find that this was retaliation. There is a lot of evidence but the recent trend has been to sometimes ignore that type of evidence.

Can you show me where a law has been passed which infringes free speech? You keep saying I hate 1A. Where is 1A being violated?

Your question was stupid. Google and you'll suss it out.
As usual, you resort to lawyer, look it up yourself verbiage. Don't assert something unless you can prove your point. I can't stand it when people say something and when asked about it, they say, look it up yourself. You must suck royally as a lawyer, if you even are.
