The disney insanity continues

An argument . . . yes. But I think it's shaky when the big stick is favorable tax treatment that's applied in a disparate manner.

Again - I think the whole thing is a dumb political idea that is hypocritical in the face of cancel culture.

Had the government done this at any other time... sure. But now? That dog don't hunt.

Can you show me where a law has been passed which infringes free speech? You keep saying I hate 1A. Where is 1A being violated?

Disney spoke out and DeSantis immediately made the threat to remove the special district and legislature followed through on that threat. I would say that qualifies as passing a law that is designed to chill free speech. It is definitely not a clear cut winner, but I think as far as intent was to silence or punish disney. It's not the government's place to do that.

Nope. I seem to remember a lot of chatter about, "1A means you're free to say anything you want, but it doesn't mean you're free from the consequences of what you say".
You are free from consequences from the govt. That's actually the point of it. FL is targeting them for exercising their free speech right

As usual, you resort to lawyer, look it up yourself verbiage. Don't assert something unless you can prove your point. I can't stand it when people say something and when asked about it, they say, look it up yourself. You must suck royally as a lawyer, if you even are.

You posed an unanswerable question because of your ignorance and then you blame me. Sure, sounds reasonable.

And bravo for the use of the phrase "suck royally." Although your parents might send you off to bed early for that potty mouth.

We all know what the motives are, but is it really chilling free speech when the government hasn't done anything to take the right itself away? If the tax district is removed, Disney employees and lobbyists can still say and do the same things that they did prior to the legislature acting.

It is designed to be punitive measure.

Disney's silence has me wondering if they've "fallen in the briar patch."

How are they being targeted? It was explained to me that the citizens of the 2 counties are going to eat this sandwich.

What is Disney going to suffer here?

But the goal is to punish and make them pay for the right. At least that's what they think they're doing

Just because it wasn't well thought out doesn't mean the goal is irrelevant

I promise, I'm really not trying to argue for the sake of arguing here. How can it be punitive when the net result is that Disney gets taxed like everyone else?

I transposed suck and royally, my mistake.

All the Republicans in this thread are supporting DeSantis punishing a single political opponent via legislative act?

That is perhaps the most unamerican thing I have heard any of you support. Please defend that position.

Homosexuality was outlawed from 1776-1993 so you do have that.

I figured local taxpayers taking on an additional $1.2B would be enough for fiscal conservatives like myself to oppose this legislation.

Guess I was wrong.

Nobody cares what you can’t stand.

You don’t know what the parental rights bill says, you don’t know what Disney said, you don’t seem to know anything relevant about Florida, or taxes, or the first amendment. You’re clueless as to every subject that’s material to this subject.

And your vacuous commentary gives no indication that the juice of your opinion would be worth the tremendous squeeze of bringing you, kicking and screaming, up to speed on the wide range of subjects about which you’re absolutely clueless.
