The disney insanity continues

I dont get this. Disney sets their own hotel tax rate?

Orlando hotel taxes don’t pay for roads or housing like in other cities. One reason: Disney and Universal’s political power

And according to this 2018 article...

Disney paid more than $120 million in taxes to Reedy Creek in 2018.

Then you have these..

Disney gets tax incentive for Orlando office; how many of 2,000 California workers will move?

Disney Gets $580 Million in Tax Breaks in Florida Move - Los Angeles Business Journal

So everybody stop feeling so sorry for Disney and the special treatments they receive. Consumers pay for everything regardless who collects.

I just have no constraints in my belief that a government can’t find a way to get a tax if they want it.

So Desantis wanted to punish Disney. I’m being led to believe he punished the citizens of the 2 counties. So either you’re wrong. Or Desantis didn’t understand what he was doing. Or he did understand and was confident he could get it covered as punishing Disney, even though it isn’t.

I think it's none of the above.

I think DeSantis is using this as a free national campaign ad. I think after the year is up, Florida quietly backs off and reverts back to the existing agreement.

As you can see with the level of confusion in this thread, most people won't understand what happened and they'll just remember how he stood up to big bad Disney.

I can't believe he's dumb enough to actually see this through.

We have some serious problems in this country right now. We're allowing the two parties (which are working together) to distract us with these social issues that they actually care nothing about.

In the old west, the best bank robbers would set the building at the end of town on fire. While the sheriff and all able bodies worked to put out the fire, they quietly robbed the bank and left town. This coordinated play disguised as a culture war is the fire.

I can guarantee you that neither DeSantis, nor Trump nor Pelosi cares if you have a three-way marriage with a goat and a pig. They want you distracted and arguing so you won't notice that were now in more debt than we were after WWII.

Think of it like chess. Morons like Marjorie Green and AOC are the pawns. They keep everyone riled up while the grown ups work in the background. Neither of them has ever even had legislation close to being passed, but everyone hangs on their every word.

As a conservative I'm glad Eisenhower and Regan are not alive to see us for the radically liberal fiscal party we are now. Running massive deficits, supporting tariffs, trying to pick on corporations that provide untold jobs. It's baffling. I guess we'll be in bed with the Unions next.

Republicans, stop voting off tee shirt and bumper sticker slogans.

Democrats, stop voting for whoever the Kardashians tell you to.

It's time to open our eyes and stop falling for the theatrics that Washington is performing.

Disney stood up for its employees. It was then targeted by the state govt. You feel that was appropriate?

Disney leadership was ignorant in the way the "stood up for their employees". All Disney needed to do was issue a statement saying they disagreed with the law. That would have made their employees happy. That should have been all that Disney needed to do. There was no need to get into a political battle over it. Had Disney not went on a public campaign against the bill and its proponents, there would not have been the subsequent bill.

In my opinion, Disney should not have succumbed to the pressure of a small vocal group of employees. This is a lesson that all companies need to learn.

As far as the state government targeting Disney, if you want to play political games as a company be prepared for the consequences. Right or wrong, if you want a political battle with a state government, you probably won't like the final outcome.

Does local govt have to pay for their special infrastructure? Or will it just be whatever their taxes pay for that any other business would receive?

If they were paying 100 million in infrastructure "taxes", then they should still be paying that 100 million in taxes. This is what I was looking for earlier. My understanding is they will no longer be paying separately for their own services as those were not paid as taxes. Disney may pay less themselves since they no longer contract their own services, but it won't be less to the local govt.
No, local government does not pay for their infrastructure but they will if this is enacted. They pay taxes for infrastructure but opt out of receiving it.

are a cost. They're passed to the consumer

So you said:
Taxes are a cost. They're passed to the consumer

So are local Florida residents the "consumers"?

I will say one thing about DeSantis, like him or loathe him, he actually follows through on what he says he is going to do. Disney probably thought he was just posturing like all the other politicians. They just learned otherwise. A Republican with a spine. Never thought I would live to see it. the speed at which this happened was mind boggling

So if you dare speak out against the govt you should be prepared for consequences? If only we were protected from that...

Likely because you've shown you have no clue what the 1st amendment does. Citizens have the right to petition their govt right?

I understand perfectly what 1A says. It says nothing about the government's responsibility to maintain special privileges of corporations who use their power to lobby in the legislative process.

Except you posted this today

Nope. I seem to remember a lot of chatter about, "1A means you're free to say anything you want, but it doesn't mean you're free from the consequences of what you say".

No, it is pretty simple so I understand why you don't get it.

If you as a corporation start a fight with the state government with whom you have special arrangements that other businesses do not have, expect consequences for your fight. It doesn't matter if you a conservative or liberal corporation.

Punitive consequences from the govt because of exercising free speech? Interesting stance

You support a bill you haven't read. You keep on saying I support Nancy Pelosi when I clearly never have. The only conclusion I can reach is that you're stupid or dishonest. I don't really care, but it's pointless to argue with someone who is either. Cheers.
You're a liberal. That says everything as far as intelligence and logic. That's why I don't really care to engage someone who is against a bill that protects children from sexual predators. The fact the the bill keeps these freaks from trying to groom these kids is all I need to know. It's nice to know where yo stand.

Are you so naive that you think this does not happen every day in every state in the union? Neither you nor I may like it, but that is the way things are done.

If demand is inelastic, then yeah, they can just pass it on to consumers. Discretionary spending, however, is highly elastic.
Discretionary spending is certainly highly elastic when the idiots in charge are driving record inflation with their socialist spending programs and crippling regulations.

Yeah and it goes to court if it happens. Advocating govt penalties for exercising free speech is a new stance on here.

Really what this is all about in the first place and being lost in the discussion. I posted the 7 page bill and nowhere does it say "Dont say Gay"..it is a lie.
But is does prevent teachers from speaking about "issues" with children as young as 3 YO..which in itself is laughable if not so bizarre and sad of the times we are in.
