can you please try to refute my arguments about pearl?

do u see a half-court offense? have you ever heard a coach say "my goal is not really to score out of the half-court offense. i just want to wear the defense down and then call a play." do you see that going on? if you think that IS happening... do you think it worked last year... or is working this year?

can you explain the coaching mentality that says... "i just can't get these guys to press how i want." or "i can't get these guys to train." or "i don't want to coach effort."

coach pearl says himself... "this is the most talented team i've ever had." and its full of guys he brought in. yet they are playing like the most under achieving team pearl has ever had. is the janitor to blame?

can you tell me why or how lofton and bradshaw worked better in the full court press than these guys?

please someone... show me how i'm wrong. translate his "i just can't..." statements please. tell me you played for bobby knight or coach k and how they moped around in front of reporters saying... "i can't....".

you say... "the record speaks for itself." if you keep comparing pearl to the past... of course... he looks like the Golden Child. but do you think, KU, TX, UCLA, UNC, Duke, UCONN, Syracuse, Louisville, Indiana (under BK),Mich St, Cals Memphis and UK give a crap about division titles and sweet 16s? really?? he's won an SEC reg season title... his best achievement.

see, the thing with you Bballvol, and the other pearl apologists, you are scared. you're so happy to have the program energized that you don't see that energized, promoted, and talked up, is not the complete picture. you're so afraid there is nothing better out there. so you hear people like me point out the negatives and you just spew out venom and insults at me and anyone who would advocate taking away your newly revived, energized program... fearing that if pearl leaves... we'll be back in obscurity.

Apologist not hardly. Realist based on facts...yes. You say "you're so happy to have the program energized that you dont see that energized promoted, and talked up, is not the complete picture you're so afraid there is nothing better out there." Let's take a look at this statement against the facts (not a bunch of emotional feelings such as you suggest in a whiney plea for CBP's job because he lost a game we know he should have won).

Only three active NCAA coaches (with three or more years of coaching) have a better record than Pearl (Williams, Few, and Dixon). Other than Dixon, I dont see any of those coaches coming here. So just from a win loss perspective your EMOTIONAL argument that there is something out there better doesnt really hold up. Oh and also has a better record than Donovan and Calapari. He also owns both Calapari and Donovan in head to head matchups without the star talent level that both those coaches had at the time. He has also recorded more sec wins within the sec the past four years than any other coach or school in the sec.

So when you say I am afraid....its not that I am afraid its that I am not going to jump on a bandwagon being driven by emotional crap that has no legitimate backing. History has shown that if Pearl can continue to win the East and to compete for the SEC every year then we will eventually break into the final four. We have great TV exposure right now which has transpired into a lot of great recruits having UT on their short list.

It simply comes down to this my arguments are based on articulated facts. Your argument is based on emotion that has no factual backing (or coherency). All I can translate from your argument is your crying how you want a Duke or UNC caliber program that has a legitimate shot at the final four every year and you want it right now. Well so do I.....so does everyone. However, you dont go fire a guy that is consistently winning 24 games a year on average while playing the one of the hardest schedules in bball, competing for conference titles consistently, and getting you in the NCAA tournament(oh and winning games in the tournament). Quit your whinning and quit talking about how we need to get rid of Pearl. Its really an embarassment for you to continue.

Although being mentioned as a candidate with high profile vacancies goes to prove my point even further that he is a top tier coach. Dont try and go off subject now. You made a stupid statement that Pearl wasnt in the running for the memphis job. Everyone knows (even my 4 year old) that Pearl could have taken the job from Memphis if he wanted to leave. I am happy as long as we are getting there consistently. If you get there consistently you are a competitive program and have a shot each year at making the finals. Getting to the final four is difficult but you cant get there unless you get to the tourney first.

Seriously, I am getting a little concerned that you are this much in the dark. Just google the subject and see what the Memphis Press and the Memphis AD had to say. It was a no brainer CBP was the lead candidate from the start and used it as leverage to get more money from UT. Duhhhhhhh!
