The eternal QB debate (merged)

I cannot believe that we have fans who after last year did not realize we have fallen so far in talent and depth. We get a new coach and they think all the problems should have been fixed in 1 year.

Then you have fans who question every move the staff makes and think they have all the answers and the answers are as plain as day.

Out of all the new SEC coaches this year our team was left with the fewest skilled players to begin with. Just look at how many freshmen are starting and how many upper classmen that never seen the field prior to CLK are starting now.

We are thin at almost every position on this team whether you want to believe it or not and we do not have a SEC caliber QB on the roster, thin on the OL and the returning receivers have yet to prove anything.

The previous regime knew of these voids and did not recruit it, it also was the main reason last year was such a failure. I will say this our new staff has the players much more disclipined and given 100%.

Look Stephens had a bad game last year against Wyoming, by now I think that has been established as everyone's thoughts. This Cromptin $H!T I just can noy take it anymore. The guy is just "plain bad". It has to be bringing the morale of the team down some. He stares down his receivers and throws picks. The only thing he is good at is drawing roughing the passer penalties, think he has 3 this year. That is more wins than he has. For the sake of the team and us fans I say "It's TIME" to bring in Stephens. Lets see what happens from there. Remember we lost to AUBURN last year 14-12, Crompton had a fumble in the endzone for Auburns defense to get 6pts. To me the guy just has a BAD ........ Well bad everything.!!!!!!!!!!!

"The whine flu is supposed to be Florida's problem, not ours. Come on now, people. Seriously. We're stuck with JC this year, and then we might have a respectable QB next year if Bray starts".

I think I'm gonna cry.

he didnt play too bad against ohio jeezus get off his back already.... it is people who call for players heads that really make me mad
1. Playing QB is VERY VERY difficult take it from someone who has played the position
2. If I was Crompton it would be hard to even continue to practice after last year. He has taken a beating, verbally and physically
3. Obviously Crompton is better than Stephens. Kiffin took our most expierenced player (Mcneil) and gave the job to a former walk on because he beat him out. I trust Kiffin to play the best players

So give him a break. I know he is not a very good QB, but its not easy and if you think you could do better go try out. But seriously, GET OFF HIS BACK!!!!!!!

you know whats funny, you guys are just fine being 2-2, we should be whooping ass, we have one of the best defenses, and if Crapton wasn't playing, we'd be 3-1, bottom line
Are you a true UT fan or are you one of those fans that like riding the fince.

Crompton is making small steps to get better.
It's hard to understand why Kiffin doesn't want to build depth at QB and play Stephens, unless he doesnt think Stephens will start next season.

A local HS QB? Do you work with the QB's each day? Were you at the South Carolina game last year or the Wyoming game? I was. If you haven't figured it out, there is nothing there to help with. No disrespect to NS because these young men come to play for UT, but this is what we have with the previous regime's recruiting. How about Bryce Petty? Where is he these days. Chill out for about 2 years.

He looked sub par even in THIS game against a bad defense. He consistently threw high and behind our receivers, which is giong to get one of them serisously hurt having to go up and twist for balls. The overthrow to Teague was awful. The fumble 10 yards behind the LOS, which we got very lucky on, was awful. Sure he made a few decent throws, but a decent high school qb could go out there and make a FEW good throws against Ohio.

Actually, Ohio has a pretty solid defense... especially their pass defense. But, good point.

Personally I think Kiffin is making some kind of statement! I really do question that one decision, but also have to accept it. I trust Kiffin knows what he is doing, but I CRINGE when crompton drops back to throw! I would rather see stephens struggle and get him ready for a possible run at starter next year then watch crompton. But I'm not the coach so I just have to sit back and continue to be a fan of the school and team I love.

Crompton is trash, there's no doubt about that, but if Stephens can't beat JC in camp what makes you think he's better?

Crompton is a 5th year senior who has had a significant amount of playing time and practice snaps that Stephens has not. Stephens had a wrist injury in the Spring and he still made the competition close. My question is how do you know he won't?

Yes 4th best in recruiting, but that does not mean he is making a good choice keeping jc in the gme. Last night they running game was hitting hard. Then he would call a pass play and would kill scoring drives. I'm affraid he is too proud to admit he is wrong with keeping jc in the game. Jc has killed the offense to many times. It's time to let NS loose the starting position. What's the worse that could happen?

I don't know, but seems like CLK doesn't have a problem opening up the competition up at other positions, and making changes. I know he's said he doesn't believe in QB switching, that it doesn't work. Last year's moves seem to bear out that thought. I was pulling for NS to win the job in camp, but that didn't happen. It's a very sad testament to our state of recruitment the great pumpkin left us to be this thin in talent across the board. Thats just my $.02 of the current situation, but I believe better things are to come.

Crompton's mantra: "Never give up, Never surrender." He is a Galaxy Quest kind of guy. This kid is a true Volunteer and we should give him a break. He is doing what he can to be the best he can be.

I didn't get to watch the game on gameday, however I did get to watch the first QTR today at my parents house. My dad records the games for me, when I don't get a chance to view them. He was so back and forth in the first quarter. If you are going to talk about the dropped passes by the WR's, then you must bring up the dropped INT's by the middle lb's. There were atleast 2 passes in the first quarter that should have been intercepted.

He had moments where he put the ball right where he needed it, but then he had the same moments, if not more, that he had a massive brain fart. I paid attention to his head the whole first quarter, and there is not one time he looks off his chosen receiver. He has pass plays specifically designed for one receiver, which Kiffin runs a lot, where the WR doesn't run a route, JC just dumps the ball off to him straight after the hike. If he throws anything differnetly, he never takes his eyes off the receiver he's throwing to. Our opponents have talked about this part of Crompton's game since last year, that he eye's his receiver the whole time.

I am sick and freaking tired of seeing Lane Kiffin not pull Crompton during a game, well hello, we were playing Ohio last night, the score should have been somewhere, oh I don't know, maybe along the lines of 60-3 or so. Now I am not putting all my blame on Crompton, the kickoff team had a miscue, well really that's about it, so yes, pretty much all the blame is on Crompton but really, actually Kiffin. This crap has gone way too far, Kiffin needs to grow a pair and sit down with Crompton and tell him, look kid, your just not qb material, let Crompton play a little TE or a little WR just a decoy or something, he is not college football qb material, nor has he ever been, it's time to live on the wild side Kiffin, I know it sounds extreme but damnit, start mixing this crap up, put in Stephens, and also run the Wildcat offense like last night with either Gerald Jones Qb'ing or Eric Berry.

Enough is enough, and Kiffin better grow a pair and I mean quick or more fans are going to start calling for his head, in fact some already are. I mean I don't know, did Crompton's dad give the University trillions of dollars, where nothing can be done here? Because obviously, it just nobody has the balls to say otherwise, well Kiffin better wisen up or Auburn will come into Knoxville, pick off Crapton several times, and win big.

If some fans are calling for His head just as you are. It means nothing. In a couple of years might mean something. In the mean tine have fun ranting away.

When are we going to see the Jonathan Crompton that we saw in the LSU game a couple years ago in 2007. Or was it in 06

I feel bad knocking a fellow human being so badly but he isn't. A real fan would request to sit on the bench or leave the team. He isn't doing any good for the team. This really does sound horrible but it's true. He is being selfish by putting himself on the field.

Watching him play makes me want to vomit. I've given him the benefit of the doubt over and over again but this is too much. He is single handedly keeping Ohio in the game.

He didn't call for 28 passes in the first half. Unless CLK is letting him call the plays.

I just hope, pray and wish that Crompton would have a breakout game. 2 or 3 TD's with no more than 1 INT against Auburn would sure do it. I know it's wishful thinking at this point...I just think he's a good person and want him to have a good game to get the fan base behind him.
