The eternal QB debate (merged)

Granted some of the fault belongs to the receivers but Crompton is a poor game manager and makes some horrible decisions. This alone is reason enough to be critical of Crompton.

All I'm suggesting is that for those who want to keep bashing our QB to back it up with stats... for this year and preferably the most recent game. You can't change history, and yet all the bashing seems to be coming from last year. How about giving the kid a fair shot?

Why the negativity? um have those other qb's went for 3 T.D.'s and 8 interceptions in their last 3 games.

Decided not to read the whole post, huh? The OP mentioned he had a bad game against UCLA. He was talking exclusively about the Ohio game. But no you're right, lets continue bashing this 22 year old who is (despite some morons on here) going to be our QB for the rest of the year... :good!:

Where have I bashed Crompton in this thread? Appears like you're the one that can't read...

Way to throw in a little subtle name calling in there as well...another internet tough guy piece of trash, I like it...

Not sure about your point, but there's 22 players (at least) playing this game. The W-L column belongs to the team and coaches.

You are taking passing stats from one weekend of football and trying to make a case for JC. Maybe you should look at JC career stats especially against teams that are ranked above 50. Most of the teams on your list where facing top 25 teams, while we were playing a team that has never been in the top 25. You also say there are other players on the field, and while you are correct in saying that, those others on the field are fighting to make up for the lack of efficiency from the qb position. I am not attacking him personally, but I think at this point, you could put anyone(and I use that term very loosely) behind center and couldnt do much worse.

It honestly seems like the "popular" thing to do is to bash Crompton, whether he deserves it or not. Members read the posts of others and just jump on board... what a bunch of conformists. The way I see it... those who continue to sling the insults, which contributes to his lack of confidence, are contributing to the problem.

So, my challenge to VolNation is to stop the bashing until the stats actually show a poor performance... and if they do, you won't here a peep from me. But how about encouraging the guy for the AU and GA games and see what happens?

I stopped reading after "I don't understand all of the negative Crompton comments."

Look at the body of work. If he hasn't put it together by the fourth game of his senior season, as a fifth year senior he never will.

OP, What were his stats against UCLA again?

To the three posters above... thank you for proving my point. No supporting data, not willing to consider the stats provided, but eager to throw out the insults.

I don't know... do you? I did my research and provided the stats. If you have stats that show otherwise please provide them.

:eek:lol: is 8 interceptions not enough stat for you. Football goes beyond stats bud. What about looking lost out on the field most of the time. What about not throwing to a wide open Stocker in the endzone against the UCLA game but throws into double coverage instead. Crompton sucks, stop trying to church it up.

Following are passing stats for some of this past week's games...

........Comp...Atts...Ints....Yds

MI.. - 13......24......1.......223
OSU - 8.......13......0.........82
BYU - 18......29......2.......241

Based on this data, I don't understand all of the negative Crompton comments. Look at the stats of GA, KY, AR, MS St, Vandy, MS, Miami, VT, Penn St, IA... they're all worse! And most of the other teams aren't much better. I checked a few competitor sites (whose QB stats were worse) and they don't seem to be bashing their QB. Granted, Crompton had a very bad game against UCLA, but he had a good game against WKY and reasonable games against FL and OH. So again... why all the negative posts? I am sure there are those who will want to bring up last year. Well, that was last year... get over it... different coaches, different blocking schemes, different offensive system. Maybe our coaches ARE making progress? Why not at least give them AND Crompton a chance during his senior season? Many posters have stated that his biggest problem is a confidence issue. If you were a QB being booed by your fans, and possibly read all of these negative posts about you, wouldn't that impact your own confidence? Think about it... be honest... and you'll agree. It honestly seems like the "popular" thing to do is to bash Crompton, whether he deserves it or not. Members read the posts of others and just jump on board... what a bunch of conformists. The way I see it... those who continue to sling the insults, which contributes to his lack of confidence, are contributing to the problem.

Yeah, but look at the competition those teams were playing.....not ohio u...

numbers dont always tell the truth:mf_surrender:

I don't know... do you? I did my research and provided the stats. If you have stats that show otherwise please provide them.

I don't know, your stats look cherry picked though.

Dig one level deeper and you will see that all those teams played equal or better competition than we did which skews our results. Your stats also don't mention TD's, and doesn't account for passer rating.

It's hard to gauge how good a QB is strictly by 1 weeks worth of stats on completion percentage and INT's.

I bet Crompton was at least in the top 10 QB's in the nation after week 1. Do you think that accurately represents his performance this year?

So for the three poster with the negative comments, where is your data supporting your opinion? You don't have any... you just like throwing out insults. I admitted the bad game against UCLA, but that doesn't excuse all the negative comments after this week's game.

I don't need data I have eyes and the entire 2008 season to reference.

everyone keeps saying stop BASHING crompton and all this bs....

if you want ppl to stop bashing him then dont put out a thread trying to talk him up because thats just going to attract everyone that dislikes him to tell you how stupid you are

No I'm not... in fact, I'm trying to do just the opposite. My point was that the bashing has continued, if not gotten worse, after the OH game... which are the stats I provided. I also stated that his stats from last year were not that good, but that we have new coaches and a new system.

It's really quite simple. If he plays a bad game, statistically, then people have something to complain about. In our case, it would appear that some posters just like to complain!

To the three posters above... thank you for proving my point. No supporting data, not willing to consider the stats provided, but eager to throw out the insults.

I don't need stats to realize Crompton is not a D1 starting qb. I have watched every game he has been apart of...

That's funny. Given the attitude of these boards, I'd say much of the problem is squarely put on JC's shoulders.

I think Crompton's dad started this board :eek:lol:

Sorry but your son rocks as QB, best I ever saw :eek:lol:

This is what you're going with... really? That must be some new hi-def TV you have to be able to see the look on Crompton's face... or were you able to see if from your seats with your super-vison?

To the three posters above... thank you for proving my point. No supporting data, not willing to consider the stats provided, but eager to throw out the insults.

Data you want? How about more Int's than TD's. 8 int's in four games sucks arse. He's on pace for 24 int's, dataman.

He has more career INT's than TD's.

How about 11-27 against Wyoming?

How about 3-8 win/loss record as a starter.

IMO There are going to be Crompton haters no matter what he does. If we should win all of our games from here on out, they would still hate Crompton. They would point out that someone else won the games, not Crompton. They don't care about stats. They don't even care about truth. They just care about bashing Crompton. End of Stiry!

Good point... so why were so many posters bashing him regarding this week's game?
