The eternal QB debate (merged)

im so tired of reading this... theres got to be something better to talk about!

crompton sucks plain and simple theres no need to take it any further than that
we are stuck with him

im going to a different thread now

The challenge is to convince yourself, using cherry picked stats that make your argument look better, that Crompton is a good qb and most of this is not his fault.

It's a TOUGH challenge...

I don't even know what you mean by poor game manager. Yes he makes bad decisions on the field, just like many of our players make bad decision on the field and off the field (something crompton doesn't do) but I don't see you pulling out your pitchfork for those guys....

I haven't even "pulled a pitchfork out" for Crompton this week either. Just stating the obvious!

The qb is the leader and on the field manager of the team. A good leader and game manager pulls his team together for a common goal (see Tebow, Tee Martin etc). When a team has chemistry problems it is most often because there isn't a team leader or game manager under center.

IMO There are going to be Crompton haters no matter what he does. If we should win all of our games from here on out, they would still hate Crompton. They would point out that someone else won the games, not Crompton. They don't care about stats. They don't even care about truth. They just care about bashing Crompton. End of Stiry!

What don't you understand about averaging two int's per game? He's on pace for 24 int's. What more data would you like?

This is what you're going with... really? That must be some new hi-def TV you have to be able to see the look on Crompton's face... or were you able to see if from your seats with your super-vison?

Man how long have you been watching UT football? I thought the worst qb who ever walked the field since the 80's was Tod Helton but he was a baseball player. Your really trying to church up Crompton. If you want to look at stats he only had a little over 200 yards on lowly Ohio. He only had 100 yards against UF. His stats suck period. He had one good game agains the worst div 1 school in the nation.

Sorry I hurt your felings but Crompton sucks unless he's been fooling us for 5 years :eek:lol:

everyone keeps saying stop BASHING crompton and all this bs....

if you want ppl to stop bashing him then dont put out a thread trying to talk him up because thats just going to attract everyone that dislikes him to tell you how stupid you are

Please provide the statement where I talked him up. In fact, at this point I wouldn't talk him up because he hasn't done a great job. I'm just tired of unwarranted insults.

Good point... so why were so many posters bashing him regarding this week's game?

I dont really think it is based just on this weeks game, it is more of the body of work and JC is a remnant of the previous regime. If JC had played better up to the Ohio game and had the same stats duiring the Ohio game, I dont think you would hear any rumblings.

I tired of clueless posters trying to stick up for the kid. He's not any good. Never has been. I don't need any stats to come to that conclusion. Get over it...

The OP never said he was optimistic, just that it didn't make a lot of sense to be completely bashing Crompton after the Ohio game...

Not bashing anyone here, but anyone who says that didn't see the game. He was horrendous. Passing yards don't mean a thing unless you include the #'s for yards after the catch. You can rack up big numbers if your receivers make things happen after taking a screen/short pass. It also doesn't account for "should have been" INT's or fumbles. His misses weren't, for the most part, a little off. They were way off. Same for his decision making.

Crompton is what he is. A very poor QB.

We have to trust CLK. Don't you believe he plays the best QB that gives us a chance to win. I do. Do I want a better QB that Crompton? You bet I do. Apparently we don't have one yet. He's not perfect. Nor were any of our players. But we won, and we will get better.

You guys are irrational with your your thinking! When you bash Crompton, you are actually bashing CLK. I, for one, think he knows what he's doing, and doing the best he can with what he's got. Gey over it!

Crompton is what he is, I will not bash the guy. He certainly hasn't been helped out by the receivers in many cases but Crompton is what he is.

I love a good "stiry".

How about the fumble Crompton had where luckily the OU player picked it up standing out of bounds? Crompdaddy looked like he had never played football pass the middle school level on that play...

Let me know guess, no stats = means nothing...

Two plays - the throw out of bounds with no pressure in the Florida game and the fumble that we got incredibly fortunate on this Saturday night. One looks like an incomplete pass in the stats and the other a non-event statistically. Those two plays tell me what I need to know.

Ummm grab a clue, when you have 2 garbage qb's on your roster left over from the previous staff...what do you do? Play the one that is least garbage and hope you can coach him up...guess what...hasn't and will not happen because.......

Crompton is garbage...

I want better QB play from whoever is in there, but according to 2 different sets of coaches he is the best we currently have. Stephens must really suck to not be able to make the throws in practice to beat out JC. Of course there are plenty of armchair coaches on here that say otherwise and then you have those top notch fans who feel booing will cause a QB change. A head coach that would fall for that stunt is useless in my eyes. All the booing accomplishes is make JC play worse and the coach more determined to keep him in there. Not to mention it looks bad to recruits who are in for visits.

Thank you. I'm a little outnumbered. :hi:

If over the next 4 games Crompton averages even 250 yards per game, 2 TD's per game, and less than one INT per game....then my opinion will change drastically. We will probably go 4-0 as well.

I'm not holding my breath though. At this point, I would just be happy without all the INT's.

I disagree, wholeheartedly.

Where do you get Crompton being a poor qb= CLK not knowing what he is doing?

You are jumping to a conclusion that was never there. Your right CLK will put the best option out there under center, the problem is that "best option" isn't a very good qb by any stretch of the imagination.

Crompton may very well get better as a qb as the year goes by. There are two things that are very obvious to me about him #1) He doesn't know his limitations and makes poor decisions with the ball #2) He does not have the "team leader" quality that you look for at qb.

I have been to the WKU and UCLA games this year and have not booed Crompton once. I came to the realization long ago that the kid is not any good, so no need for me to pile on with the other rednecks at the game that boo the kid every play...
