The eternal QB debate (merged)

Look, he is worst QB in D-1, we know it, he knows it. I cringe through his interviews. He shows no moxie at all. I would have respected him more if he told us to F-off, and that he going to lead us to victory with his arm next game. It is painful for the kid and this is why he needs to go to Kiffin and say "Coach, I need to step aside". For his own sanity. Can you imagine being him living in Knoxville right now? This is a fragile kid, afraid to throw a forward pass. JC, stop while u still have some sanity.

He is not the worst QB in Div 1, the backup QB's are. Shame they havn't been able to bring in top QB's in several years now. We seem to be able to reel in the WR's, RB's and LB's each year, but not the top flight QB's.

lol cromptons garbage as a qb, whats wrong with people saying it? its the truth...he will always be the measuring stick for future bad qbs at UT "this guys the worst qb since john crompton"

no I'm someone smart enough to be able to separate his personal life from his play. Can you do that?

Doubtful. Most folks want to blame JC for everything that is wrong in their lives. The guy is not a NCAA D-1 QB, that point is obvious. But to keep griping about this issue is a waste of time. Nick is not the answer, sorry to burst everyone's bubble. When your own teammates nickname you "PicNick", then your chances of leading a big time football team to be victories against SEC caliber defenses.

We can go back and forth forever about how not talented JC is. But bottom line NS is not good either. I say start the freshman, at least then we can say, hey it's a freshman give him until next year.

When talking with my dad about UT football, we've both said that the most irritating thing about him, is when he opens his mouth or acts out when you can see him on TV. He never takes personal responsibility for his actions screwing things up. If you saw the end of the game against UCLA, he's yelling at the receiver, acting like he had the wrong play. Even though if you look at where the ball was thrown, if it was supposed to be a curl, the ball would have either been A) at the receivers knees, or B) 6 yards short of a first down, when it was 4th down.

Remember his comments last year about the fans not being important?

So true and all he had to do was loft the ball over GJ's shoulder and it's not only first down but TD and game winner as well.

For the FL game, he waited to late to hit GJ by pumping while GJ was running toward the sideline, then throws it so late GJ is already out of bounds and can't come back for it.....absolutely horrible!!!

What is hilarious, is fans, not coaches on this board, claiming that Stephens is the cure all, for all our QB problems.

If it is that freakin obvious, then while has CLK, CJC, and CDR not seen this?
Is it time to get rid of this staff because they are not playing a QB, that has not proven anymore than the one they are playin?

Wow!

blaming JC for Jones running out of bounds is ridiculous. GJ should have the ability to stop before he hits the white lines

The ball should've been thrown sooner regardless, GJ being out of bounds is really a moot point.

not really since running oob is just stupid when the play is still alive. He got lost in the end zone and messed up. It was a good pass

So basically what you're saying is some of the armchair coaches here are more qualified to determine who the starter should be?

How many armchair coaches here have spent as much time evaluating the QB's as the real coaching staff has?

I am as frustrated as everyone else about our QB play this year but I firmly believe based on the coaches assessment of the QB's they decided to go with the QB who was less pronged to cost us opportunities. CLK has made it clear that Crompton is the guy but he has also made it clear to Crompton he has to improve. In other words Stephens must scare this staff to death to play him in a game.

I agree that GJ should have stayed in bounds pj but if JC throws the ball on time it's a TD, same with the 1st int, ball was thrown late as well as underthrown. Crompton just can't seem to make the decision to pull the trigger until it's to late.

I've watched that play a few times and it's not that late. GJ just keeps running straight until he's 2 steps oob and then sits. Gotta give your qb a chance. For all the mistakes he's made I can't put that on JC.

JC is not a very good QB, no one is denying that. But what I don't get is how everybody knows for a fact that Stephens will save the offense.

All of this is a moot point until CLK makes a change. And until he does it doesn't matter. Pull for JC til he is not playing anymore for whatever reason.

You know what really grinds my gears? No one's come up with a new priest and a rabbi joke in like 30 years. Ok, ok, uh, a priest and a rabbi go into..the supermarket. And the priest says, let's buy a ham. And the rabbi says, "Nope. Can't eat it. Not allowed. It's forbidden." Pigs are like super-heroes to them. Is it perfect? No! But I dont see you coming up with anything better. And that, people, is what grinds my gears.

A Rabbi and a Florida Priest attend a UF vs TN football game. During the 1st series, Tim Tebow runs for a 1st down. All the Florida people scream and fall down worshiping him. The Rabbi asks the Priest, who is that young man everyone is worshiping. The priest replies, that is our messiah.
On the next 3 plays, the TN, defense breaks though and sack Tim Tebow. As he wobbles off the field for the punting team to come on, the Rabbi leans over to the priest and say's, you see, i told you we were still waiting on the messiah. :birgits_giggle:

However the throw was STILL LATE!! No if ands or buts about it!!! Bottom line is JC has no feel for game and ZERO field presence. JC and NS practiceand play oppositely, NS should get pt at some point...

I'll have to disagree, that throw should have been made as GJ is making his cut, could have even been thrown later than that and completed, JC just watched him run out of bounds before he let it go. I'm not defending GJ's route, he should have stayed in bounds and helped his QB but that ball was thrown late without a doubt.

go watch it again and tell me it's not on GJ. See if you can do that

maybe he's going thru his progressions? Geez the guy can't win here. He tries to find the open receiver but the dumba run out of bounds. This is just stupid

It's all JC's fault. It was JC's fault 2 weeks ago Moore dropped a 1st down pass right in his chest too I guess? Sometimes it's not on him. He's not good but it's not all him

I know Beecher, I don't understand why people cannot accept the fact we are left with 2 very poor candidates at the QB position. I feel this staff does not accept losing and if there was a better solution to the problem they would not hesitate to use it.

I want to see something different. Just gonna have to wait a while. It took CLK the UCLA game to figure out JCs limitations. That game hurt. last weeks game plan would have beat UCLA by 10.

CLK is learning as well.
