The Florida Postgame Report

And a lot of that is because of Jim Calhoun's health. That's still a good win.

It's above average, but no where near the same category as the UF wins. Our bad losses stand out a lot more than a 3 point home win over a team that has completely fallen apart.

Not to mention that until today we didn't have a single road win.

see my recent post:

we can lose to vandy, and lose in sec t championship and most likely be in.

take the orange glasses off man. This just isn't true.

So if Florida loses a few more and falls out then that wasn't a big win either.....right?

if UF loses 4 of their next five (which would put them at 1-6 in their last 7, just like UConn), then no, these wins will not be nearly as great as they are now.

Look, you know as well as anyone else, that UCONN win on national tv was a good win if only by perception. Just admit that this team, regardless of the liklihood of it happening, can theoretically make it in without winning the tourney if they win out and get two wins in the tourney. That's 21-13 going 9-1 to close out the regular season, and 11-2 with the SEC tourney.

You can believe, as I do, that this scenario is unlikely, but you cant really argue objectively that the scenario wouldn't put them in the dance.

im probably going to trust the peolpe that get paid millions like joe lunardi, who predicts the bracket teams just about perfect every year, more than i'll believe you.

that is what the projections say, if we lose 1 more in season, and lost in sec t championship game our rpi would be around 44. that gets you in my friend.

take of the black glasses.

Still a big win against a top 25 team at the time which would be good enough to get us in, imho.

Those bad losses of course cam early which is always good...now I think we have an incredible task to qualify for the NCAA but they really want to see what you did the last half of the season...if we can build on this and somehow get to 18-19 wins???Who knows...I too am very proud of this team, though...and I kinda like that 4 guard line up as well....Maymon plays the way the game is meant to be played...with PASSION....

Yeah, LSU is a tougher game than people expect.

LSU plays pretty good defense. Fla has never been known as a defensive team under Donovan. We are not a good matchup for them with Maymon, Hall and Stokes down low. LSU is better inside.

Really, indy? After that win all you got is to argue about what we're NOT going to do?

If we get into the Top 50 in RPI and finish 11-2 after the SEC Tourney, there is a solid chance we get into the NCAAs.

You can often find the game online if you would like.

I would have watched it, but we have a house full ATM for my annual superbowl party. So couldn't see it.

If you know somewhere I could watch it back it would be great! (we don't get ESPN 3 here)

Thanks

its not lunardi it is rpiforecast.com

they are experts who make their living off of rpi rankings and projections

then why did you cite Lunardi?

My first post was about how great it is to beat UF twice and how i really like how this team is looking. The chances of us getting into the tourney aren't high at all, if they exist at all, yet people always start talking about it like it's expected to happen as soon as we get a good win. No one can ever just look at our situation logically and be happy with it. This team is a solid NIT team that plays great defense and is looking great for the future. They're not a tourney team.

RPI UPDATE:

from the one site that has already updated we are right at about 100...

that is a huge jump, almost 40 spots from last week, that is a big time move, huge win for vols.

if they wanted any chance of ncaa tourney(excluding sec t) this game was a must, good win boys.

you are overestimating the value of that win. they are in a downward spiral and still have multiple tough games left this season.

Or how about we just enjoy a rare road win against the #8 team in the nation and #14 rpi team? I don't give a damn if Fla goes in free fall mode (and they won't), this was a good win today.

I don't think we're a NCAA team, but if we play every game like we did today, we'll have a chance to win every game the rest of the way. Our toughest part of the schedule is in our rearview mirror.
