The general USC debate thread (merged)

The longer this drags out the less I think anything will come of it.

i think exactly the opposite. i think it means the NCAA really wants to nail SC bad and is looking for evidence ot do so. otherwise why not just take a couple of scholorships, void bush's wins, and settle the matter?

Because they can't...?

of course they can. they can do whatever they want and there certainly is amble evidence bush wasn't eligible.

I wish this was true. But, they technically don't have any hard evidence. Without the deposition they just have speculation and here-say.

Ask the 'AA how well sanctioning Jerry Tarkanian without solid evidence eventually turned out for them.

UNLV was not the same in basketball for a long while. They still can't match one heck of a run back in the Tark era.

Doesn't change the fact the idiots at the 'AA ended up cutting Tark a check for almost 3 mil. With that precedent as background, they have tread very lightly as of late. I expect them to continue to do so.

Those of you hoping nothing happens to USuCk, the UCLA board is calling your name. I bet they are rooting for Ed O' Bannon to sue the heck out of the NCAA and make them pay for being light on their archenemy.

i'd argue the evidence in this case is pretty strong to at least make a lack of institutional control case and i'd doubt SC would sue if they did what i suggested the could do i.e. lose a couple of scholorships and void the non NC wins.

I hear the NCAA is going to take away Reggie Bush's 5th year of eligibility.

That'll show'em!!

what makes it a non slap on the wrist? i figure 50/50 chance of a postseason ban. 1/4 chance of it being multi year.

I say a slap on the wrist is probation and some vacated wins. Non slap would be anything worse.

If anyone thinks the 'AA will do anything but something completely negligible, they're fooling themselves.

'SC fans can go ahead and make their reservations for Pasadena. (D and OL isn't strong enough for the natonial title yet)

And it looks like the unveiling of fair weathered USC fans. Yes, why don't I be a Vols fan and a Trojans fan because I can't get over Kiffin.

Really despicable.

It's not like I was a fan of 'SC when Carson Palmer, Troy Polamalu, et al were playing.

It's not like I never fell in love with the tradition of Lott, Munoz, Matthews, Yary, Simpson, Allen, et al or anything.

There's absolutely nothing "despicable", as you so eloquently phrase it, about hoping two programs succeed.

I like Lane and Ed because, quite frankly, I admire their attributes. They talk sh**, they're fearless, and they're winners. See a lot of myself in Lane.
