Source Leaks: Usc Placed on Major Probation

Published on February 23, 2010 by Mnofdichotomy in Football

After a full three days of interviews, including two full days focused on Pete Carroll’s football program, the NCAA has wrapped up it’s investigation of the USC athletic program. And while an investigation of this duration is virtually unheard of, the worst news for the Trojans football program appears to be coming from leaked reports popping up over the last several hours.

One official directly connected to the investigation was directly quoted as saying that the only matter for discussion at this point is the severity of the sanctions. It is all but assured that the Trojans will lose a significant number of scholarships and bowl eligibility for as many as two years, and will not be appearing on television.

This is part of what is rapidly becoming the norm in college football; two of the last four BCS championship game participants have all been on some form of probation. It’s an issue that desperately needs to be addressed.

USC may very well pay the price for the trend, as the NCAA will in all likelihood look to set an example of the Trojans, leveling some rather harsh penalties and probation. It isn’t as if we didn’t see it coming; Pete Carroll jumping ship the way he did pretty well tipped us all off.

This would be the first of several steps the NCAA needs to take to fix the ailing world of college football. For starters, they need to pay these kids. The schools are making hay off of their efforts; should the students who do the actual work not reap some of what they sow? I know the arguments; mainly that they’re receiving a college education. However, with many of these kids not graduating, it becomes irrelevant. It isn’t right, but it’s a reality that needs to be dealt with. No one is saying the players deserve to be millionaires. But what harm is there is paying these kids enough to live off of, instead of living off of Mom and Dad. (The NCAA could do more to stimulate the economy than Obama’s stimulus package did)

Let these kids collect a few hundred bucks a week. Let them afford a car and food. Take away the need for temptation, and you can eliminate much of the problem at the source.

The NCAA also needs to implement penalties against coaches found to have committed recruiting violations. USC will pay the piper, and Pete Carroll is relaxing in the NFL
sun for a year or two, after which he will no doubt return to the College Football world to a lot of zeros. The coaches need to be granted some accountability. Participate in recruiting violations? You’re out of a job for three years. Don’t like it? I hear the Buffalo Bills need a special teams coach.

And finally, on a completely non related note, quit punishing kids for celebrating. If a kid catches a touchdown for Ohio State over Michigan to win the game, I want to see him celebrate. You take that away, you’re chipping away the essence of what college football is.

I'm not saying that they won't get placed on probation, but this is pretty far from being a legitimate article.

Well, it's...it's....a major award!

I really hope USC get hit hard on all of this. They have been in the gray area every since they have been "back" as a powerhouse in the early to mid 2000's. Between the Bush, McKight, Mayo big dawg allegations I hope they get screwed.

There is doubt coming from this source because it also has Texas joining the BIG 10 in 2012 and Randy Moss being traded to the Green Bay Packers. I checked a couple of legitimate sources (ESPN. NFL.com) and nothing about either A and especially B.

That might be the final verdict but I'll wait for the official outcome.

I wont pretend that I have any inside info or anything like that, but I would be surprised if the NCAA didnt lay down some major sanctions. You dont investigate for 7+ years and spend the money that the NCAA did and then just give them a slap on the wrist. If they determine that USC knew about this stuff, then I would bet they will drop the hammer.

MUAHAHAHAHAH looking good my brotherin.....looking good.....:hi::rock::eek:k:

The length of the hearing and the amount of evidence presented against USC in its hearing before the NCAA Committee on Infractions last week makes it appear as if the NCAA prepared a case to hammer the Trojans. If that happens, it’s another example of coach Lane Kiffin’s ready-fire-aim mentality. He took a big gamble by returning to Troy. Ask former Alabama coach Dennis Franchione what it’s like to take a job and discover you walked right into the NCAA jail.
