There was a huge amount of luck involved in that shot, but under that kind of pressure that's about as good as it gets.

Tavistock Cup is entertaining TV...

Yesterday Feherty is introducing Justin Rose on 1st tee and mentions Rose is a good friend of Nick Faldo, then says...."Unfortunately Nick couldn't be here, he's attending the birth of his next wife"....

:eek:lol:

Wouldn't you rather be "lucky" than "good"....i know i would
Was it Trevino that said, "the more i practice, the luckier i get"

feherty is a clown. i love his articles on the last page of golf magazine.

I've lipped out more putts in the last 2 days than I can remember lipping out in the last 3 years. Hitting it from tee to green as good or better than I ever have but can't get anything to fall in the cup.

I'm still trying to recover from the winter golf. My game always starts screwing up around January/February, but late March and April will usually get back to normal. I played today and felt like I struck the ball well, but didn't score that well. Going back out Friday and Sunday. Maybe the scores will improve a little this weekend.

Had my first formal golf lesson last week and I now feel like a fish out of the water. My scoring had gotten so bad that golf wasn't that much fun-im working my tail off at the range now hoping that this will all pay off down the road.

Reminds me of what the pro that taught me how to play always said when I told him that something he was having me do felt weird . . . "If you're hitting the ball bad, why would you want anything I told you to try to feel normal?"

I've never had what I would call formal lessons, but I know several course pros who have helped me along my way and just about all of them start by telling me something along the lines of, "Now this is going to feel weird, but it's only because you have no idea how screwed your swing has become."

Kinda reminds me of when I was playing the best golf of my life and I got greedy and took lessons from one of the "top 100" instructors in the nation and he screwed me up for a year.

He actually worked miracles with one of my good friends, but I wouldn't recommend him to my worst enemy.

I have seen the same deal with getting lessons. Seems like the guys that charge a lot of money makes you come and see them over and over. They like to rebuild you instead of fixing something small. There is nothing wrong with that if you have the time and money to do it.

+1000, I wasn't in need of a complete overhaul, yet that is exactly what he was trying to do. My first shot with my "new" swing took out 3 ankles to my right. He kept talking after that, and I kept not listening

Much of this conversation is why many go back to their original teacher. His philosophy will generally remain unchanged and he knows what you're trying to get done.

Any underlying message in that BPV?
not really. I stick to my original, but spent several years playing with another very good teaching pro. He gave me setup stuff and we talked a ton about mental approach and course management, but he knew I only wanted real instruction from my original guy.

My original guy spent a lot of time harnessing me back to a high fade. I love that shot and trust that he'll keep me where I want to be.

I come from far away for football games and try to play before late starting games. I lost my tie in to my usual place (Tanasi in Tellico Village) and am looking for public course recommendations for football game days in the Knoxville general area. Any suggestions?

Rarity Bay is usually in pretty good shape and is right there at Tellico. It has been a few years since I played it though.

River Islands.

easily one of the best values for your money.

playing later this morning...
can't wait, went on vacation last week (nashville/clarksville), and it was the first time in years I didn't take the sticks with me..

Willow Creek and Avalon are 2 more options on top of River Island.

And I'll throw Egwani Farms in since you were willing to drive to Tanasi.

Where do you play in Clarksville?

Clarksville CC is actually a pretty nice tract. Their pro is the best in this area (and the guy I see when seeking enlightenment.)
