The Golf Thread

Followed up my piece-meal 81 with a 92 yesterday. I never could seem to get loose, and I never felt comfortable over the ball. Those days happen, I guess.

It was actually a minor victory of sorts. I struck it like crap from tee to green, hitting one fairway and no greens, but didn't put a number bigger than double on the card. Hey, it's something...

played Three Ridges in Knoxville yesterday. Hit my approach on #1 to within 3 inches . . . in hindsight should have just turned around and gone back to the clubhouse after that.

#6, #7 and #9 on that course absolutely own me. Especially #9.

one interesting hole from the gatlinburg course that i figured i would share. this is the view from tee box to green.

hole 12 tee.jpg

first time i ever played that hole i hit it to 3 feet, with a ball mark no further than 18 inches from the hole. i don't recall what club i played.

5 for 5.

It's official; I'm married to the Ladies Club Champion yet again. Against an unusually weak field this year, she breezed through, winning the finals match this afternoon 6 & 5.

#9 is where my round started falling apart. I hit one dead left off the tee and had to pitch it sideways before then airmailing the green with my next one.

I usually hit my good ol' reliable high push/block into the trees, pitch out, come up short with my third, pitch on, and two-putt for double.

Not being a long hitter, #7 seems like it's about 700 yards or so. Especially if you miss the fairway to the right. Luckily, things get much more manageable on the back nine.

So I'm finally getting around to establishing a handicap, and after reading up on the rules, it looks like I'm not entering anything until I get at least 10 scores, and 15 is probably better. Did you guys know that if you enter 5 (the minimum required,) your handicap is based on the lowest round only?

Anyway, it gives me an excuse to get out on the course I guess.

There is a tourney besides the amateur this weekend?

Yeah, there is some monetary gain at the end of these 4 tournaments that are so grueling they have to spread it out over 5 weeks. They somehow managed to slap a playoff label on it. Let me know if you find somebody that finds that the least bit more interesting over, say, 4 regular tournaments.

The interviews with the players trying to get them to talk it up is one of the most disingenuous things I've ever seen. It feels almost like Tebow's overt uber Christianity.

Ok so i'm assuming this is just an all around golf thread. Is anyone from the West Tenn area and could give a review on the golf course at Pickwick? I really want to drive down one day and play it but i don't wanna pay a ridonkulous price for a mediocre course

My boy has lost it. Its different watching him miss putts that he is supposed (ok, not supposed to but always has) to make.
Great tournament, though
