The Golf Thread

i know it is, but don't tell that to him. unless his club championship is played on the par 3 course.

Actually, the par 3's are some of hardest holes on the course. One is 230 and another 220. The other 2 are fairly short but have their pitfalls. Its just a short course. Par 5's are all easily reachable and a few par 4's are drivable. Plus I've played it for 20 years.

1 course-Honors Course, but it's tough as nails.

The way these guys come in and play it nowadays, they sure don't make it look hard. Haven't played it since the last renovations, but 10 is a brand new hole.
I've also heard they are about to shut down to redo the greens. Heard they have almost lost them

For some reason, it gets very hard for me to play regularly after 9/1 every year. The last time I went out, a randomly occurring duck-hook crept into my long iron game, and although I've been meaning to get to the range and work it out, I can't seem to find the time and inclination at the same moment. I have been thinking about it alot, though...

Oh, geez they must be playing a very mis-labeled course. -3 is awesome on most any course

+2 won our 2 day tourney this year.

Where is the honors course? Thanks, by the way

Not quite. Our local country club isn't long at 6300 yards, but it is an interesting little par 71 (5 par 3s.) Our superintendant, who grew up as an assistant at Honors, has our greens pretty slick and has done some nasty things with the rough, but it is really about pin positions. Somewhere close to par usually wins the thing, and although this year's turnout was a little weak, there are some pretty good golfers in the area.

Slope/course is 69.9/120, but that really doesn't tell the story, as there are places on most greens to stick nearly impossible flags.

Note: there is also the possibility they backed up to alternate tees on our signature 8th hole and played it as a par 5. I have seen them do this for the 2-man, but don't know about the club championship. If so, it adds about 70 yards to a blind tee shot and gives a worse angle. That green is a story unto itself; the 2-man was lost one year with a 6 putt on it.

For Joe, it's a freaking tough track. It's not Whistling Straits, but it can play ugly.

Played in a 4 man scramble today and we shot a 60(-12) at the Farms in Dyersburg. Not great but not bad, right? Then I realized Tiger shot a 62 all by himself

well I'm getting ready to head out and try to redeem our performance last night..

I'm playing this morning and one of the foursome is a UCLA grad, so I'm gonna take it to him :)

of course he's typical SoCal, when I talked to him earlier in the week, he wasn't fired up or excited about the game at all

figures I get there he's wearing a UCLA polo, but he didn't even watch the game

beat him by 16 though 85 to 101

i'm going to be in Hilton Head next week for a wedding.

recommend a course (on or off the island) we can play at in the 50-100 dollar range. i never payed attention to the previous talk on this subject.

Palmetto Dunes. Any of the 3.

Jack Nicklaus' Melrose course. It's on Daufuskie Island(a short boat ride from Hilton Head). It is a fantastic course

Heard of it, but never played it. Is it on Daufuskie too?
yes. Only course I've played over there. Guy that lives there told me it and Long Cove are generally recognized as the best courses there. Harbor Town just has too many ups and downs. Near tourney times, it's all world, but it's just OK for the remainder of the year, and I love that track. One of my favorites in the world 'cause it plays to my strengths.

I gotcha. Well Doozer, it sounds like you have 3 pretty good choices so far!

Oh, what does Haig Point run in the price range?
It's actually private. My bad for bringing it up. I wasn't aware. We just went over and played, but the guy we played with knows every greenskeeper over there, so I guess he just made it happen.
