The Golf Thread

Weekend full of scrambles, and it was both good and bad. Friday I was our A player, both because I hit it pretty well and because my team kind of stunk. Saturday, I was our D.

Scramble golf sucks, and to prove it, I'm going to repeat the experience in our club's 2-man next weekend.

I was watching when they slowed his swing down and analyzed it. It looked darn near perfect.

that shoulder turn was the most amazing thing I've seen in a swing in a long time. That's more than Boom Boom had when he arrived. McCord said it looked about 150 degrees and I thought he was undershooting.

Played in a two-day tournament this weekend. Shot 67 on the first day to put myself in the final group today. Found it necessary to put myself out of contention early with a bogey, double-bogey en route to a nice little 76.

Love this game.

Nice first round anyway.

Where was the tournament held?

are you talking about Rose or Fowler?

the shoulder turn on Fowler is absurd but i guess i should watch Rose closer.

I think he was talking about Fowler. I was actually talking about Rose. Fowler's shoulder turn is incredible, but he's got the cllub laid off at the top and swings way too flat for my tastes. His timing has got to be pretty good to repeat that swing.

you are correct. I was talking about Fowler with that absurd turn. Rose has gotten his swing pretty well on the money.

He'll find a coach who'll make that club position better and use that shoulder turn with almost no hip turn to generate some incredible heat with few moving parts. Dude could be a monster because he has great touch and makes his 6 footers. He's a goofball looking thing, but he can be a force. Watched him and his OK St. teammate at the amateur and thought Uihlein the better player because he's a big, tall cat with more classic swing, but Fowler can move it out there get it in the hole.

i thought i read once that he's never really had formal coaching. i don't remember the article or where i saw it though. i remember thinking that his explains his set up and swing. Ryan Moore seems to take an odd swing at it too, so it might have been him. they both wear ridiculous looking hats.

Moore was actually wearing something different this weekend. Looked like a normal cap. Must have traded with Ricky Barnes or something.

Can't hit it much better than I did today, unfortunately, I sure could have chipped it better, short game let me down today when it came to the scorecard, 39,41,38 in my 3 nine's today.

Damn game has a way of kicking your ass even when you're stroking it good and having a helluva good time while doing it.

I am preparing for the big 2 man by hitting balls on the range this afternoon, then consuming a steak with some decent beer. I'm pretty sure that's how John Daly would do it, so I think that should work out fine.

As for strategy, my plan is to hit it close, then let my partner make the putt. Alternately, I could also miss the green, let him hit it close, and then he can make the putt. Either way, as long as he makes all of the putts, I expect low numbers.

This only works if you smoke 3 packs of cigs after supper.

Tomorrow should be an adventure

I'm playing with the wife in a couples scramble...Since the two kids and the move, my golf's dropped dramatically, her playing has been practically non existent for the last 5 1/2 years

She hit a few balls tonight, and actually made some decent contact

I'm hoping for the best tomorrow

This is a family board VIL.

How about a dip of snuff? It's an amateur tournament, after all.

I actually envy you a little. My wife is good; really good. Good enough that she had to instruct the engraver on the club championship plaque to include the initial of her maiden name so that when archeologists dig it up 200 years from now they will be able to connect the dots without slighting her. And I know, deep down inside, that no matter how many lessons I take or range balls I hit, I will never be the best golfer in the house.

not worth the attorney fee's

And that's the other problem. She's a lawyer.
