The Golf Thread

I know on some of Tour Edge Drivers, as well as any repsectable model, you can have a small selection of degrees open to square. Alot of tour players go up to 2 degree open face for workability for some reason. CAuse they're alot better than me for one. I know for a fact from Tour Edge web site, on their pro line model hybrids you can actually order the hybrid irons up to 2 degrees open face as well. That would tend to help with the draw bias.

I played with a guy this morning that playes Tour Edge woods and hit his 3 wood. That thing is an absolute rocket launcher. I'm not one to switch equipment all that often; especially for a few extra yards, but the results were hard to ignore. I hit 3 times and it is easily 15-20 yards longer than my 3 wood with no change in trajectory.

Barefoot golf...way to go

I repeated the performance today with a bit of additional beer. It hasn't been a bad weekend by any means, but I am glad the scramble gauntlet is over for a while.

One additional note--when barefoot golfing, do not forget to liberally apply sunscreen to the top of the feet. Fortunately, I became aware of this rule before eschewing mis zappatos.

One of the advantages of growing up in coastal Ga is learning to apply sunscreen liberally to all exposed areas. There is no pain like sunburn on the top of the foot. I promise that it will only happen one time.

Everybody says that about that 3 wood. Must be something to that cup face thing.

i went and hit the ping g5 irons the other day, and i got to admit, i was impressed. i have a set of ping eye 2's that are probably about 10 years old, and i still like them...but i got to admit, hitting those g5's actually made me look like i knew what i was doing.....

The weird thing is that it felt almost a little dead at impact. The first time I hit it, I really didn't think I had hit it all that great, then I got to my ball and it was about 15 yards beyond my own 3 wood (which I felt like I nailed).

The way it was explained to me was that there were no USGA COR requirements for 3 woods and this club takes full advantage of that.

it's rarely attributable to the sticks my friend, good or bad.

What does high COR face mean WRTthe spin of the ball? Drivers have reduced spin. If the same case for 3 wood, I don't think I want it.

I had the same question. It's cool to nail a 3 wood 260, but that's not really a shot I am trying to hit all that often. I can see where it might become difficult to control.

would completely defeat the purpose of the 3W - which everybody knows is to hook it on #10 at Augusta

Absolutely . . . I travel the whole state, so I have a way of ending up near golf courses. Arrowhead is one of my favorite courses in the state. The way they routed that course along the lake makes for some incredible views. It's like playing a Lake Oconee course except with no houses in sight.

I've never played Cateechee. I know a member though that keeps telling me I need to come play it.

Cateechee is a requirement. Absolutely one of the best you'll encounter. Pro style manicure. Impeccable. TOUGH and LONG. Who is the member. I may know them. Used to play Cateechee alot.

I hit the $45 Tour Edge H3 Driver. No fitting. Just off the shelf entry driver. I chose it only because it was to be form my kid for X-mas, and if I didn't like the brand, lost no money. I still swing the $45 Titanium basic model. Let's see. at Highland Walk, 290 yard #1 blues = 1 green driven, about 4 times in the swale in front of the green for about 270. Hole 3 on top of the hill a few times. #4 down the left fairway option to the bottom. The long dog left par 5 on the back = about 285 one time. This is all just the $45 driver w/regular shaft. You can get TE custom fitted, and depending on the woods you choose, you have a selection of about 6 top graphitets in various flex/torques. I'm not a every drive long hitter. {I've been known to get the occasional 270 plus 3 wood. Until I got the TE driver, I had quit hitting them and used my 3 wood quite effectively. I only gave up minimal yards with that beast.} But, even with their shelf driver, I have gained some yards. That regular felx adds pop if I'm not over swinging.

I'm convinced it is their equipment in general. I've picked up yards with their cheap reg flex shelf driver. I didn't even buy the mid-range.

picking up yards with a weaker shaft is not uncommon, but the tradeoff, IMO, is not worth the additional yiddage.

I think the yardage thing relative the head construction, at least on drivers, has been pretty well limited by the USGA's trampoline effect ruling. The way to garner more yards today is to find the right shaft head combination that optimizes trajectory vs. spin for your swing.

Which is precisely my next step. I like the Tour Edge stuff. And, I can afford them. You can even have the pro shop custom fit the $240 irons. I'm going to custom fit and tune a driver and maybe 3 wood. Don't use a 5w much anymore. Then, I'll do the irons. Just don't know when.

You're right about trade-offs going to a flexible shaft. You can't do that and maintain a gorilla swing. You'll go way left, maybe way right, and you'l even start topping dribblers off the red tees. That was my problem when I got this. Got in a groove with it. Lately haven't been controlling hte tempo and started those nast 20 yard toppers. A stiff flex swing gets the hands and hips rotated out before the reg shaft can come through, and splat...ball into the ground 6 inches out. I needed to cut and smooth my tempo anyway. Can't swing all or nothing every shot anymore.

I'm a proponent of using the stiffest shaft you can handle to get the flight you seek. Stiffer often means more consistent and better able to handle tempo differences.

How's the new 905?
Gone. My father-in-law just took it. Good stick and decent setup, but I like the new models that actually set up open. Gonna give the HiBore Tour Model a shot. Got great reviews on Golf WRX. If you haven't been to WRX, go there. Bunch of gear junkies and a few of them can golf well enough to provide good feedback.

True, and a standard regular flex is probably still a bit light for me. Ideally, I'd like to end up between std regular and standard stiff flex/torque. I've got a follow through that if I don't transition through and feel the shaft on my shoulder, I probably peeled off to a slice, regardless of tempo. I do prefer a low to low-mid kick point. The graffaloy in my bertha 3 wood is nice and performs well. I have gotten some great distances out of that shaft with upper above average control. That is one reason I went to it for my tee boxes until I got this driver. Maybe I'll reshaft the driver. If I don't control my tempo, I'll either slice off or get through before the shaft and head square up. On days I'm clicking (wish there were more), it performs excitably well.

Wow that didn't last long, I'll check out the site.
