The Golf Thread

Wow that didn't last long, I'll check out the site.
just didn't like the setup as well as my old driver. I hit mine well enough that I'm going to have to like the setup / ball flight awfully well to make a change. Change rarely happens around my bag, but I did recently try a new putter that I like very well.

What are you putting with these days Papa? I have finally gotten the Odessey DualForce working these days. It has made a big difference.

I just use a plain ole goose neck style Ray Cook putter. Less is better for me. Don't like looking at all the bulk on any club, expecially putters. But, I have a real good eye and can see angles and breaks and such. Execution not always as good as eyes.

No, actually I just got one of the new Odyssey Marxman putters. Two ball style, but with much better alignment aid for me. It's an ugly beast relative to the Camerons I've used for years, but I'm very confident with the alignment and that's enormous for me. It's also the first Odyssey I've tried where I feel confident that I can actually control pace.

What do shoot?

I've putted with a 2 ball for a couple of years and I've finally gotten to that crisis point where I've got 4 putters in my trunk and never know which one is going in the bag until right before the round. I'm about to go mental hitting the ball great but having 34 putts per round. The other day I added it up and in my last 2 rounds I've hit 26 greens in regulation and made ZERO birdies. The flat stick is not good right now.

I've actually stayed very faithful to one style of Cameron putter, but the alignement help of the Marxman is astonishing. I no longer have to concern myself with aligning the putter left, which I slip into if I'm not practicing enough.

I still keep old faithful in the trunk, but I don't think it's going to be coming out any time soon.

Do you think the vertical lines help alignment more than the 2 ball look?

They definitely do for me because the lines go all the way to the ball. If you align the center stripe with the true center of the ball, I don't know how to misalign it (well I guess you could get your head position way out of kilter). guess you could put lines on the 2 ball and accomplish the same thing, but it wouldn't stick out the same way.

This sounds pathetic, but I seriously might take a Sharpie to my 2-ball just to see if it helps.

Holy crap. I am just as frustrated. I am definitely buying a 56 degree wedge. I hit 11 out of 14 fairways on Sunday ( my misses were all in the first cut) and found myself struggling with wedges into the green. No birdies.

I think Odyssey even makes them now with the line already on them. My gripe with the Odyssey putters has always been no feel / speed control. This new White Hot XG job seems to help some (along with some lead tape).

Speaking of the Sharpie, I use a knife to mark the top edge of my other putters (they only come with a dot) with a sight line on top that will go all the way to the ball.

Exactly . . . The further away from the cup that I get, it just seems like more and more of a guess as far as speed.
I think they're too light for the most part. The new Odyssey Black line are a bit heavier and are more dedicated to feel and feedback.

The right putter makes all the difference in the world if for no other reason than the confidence it gives you.

Fit, specifically shaft length, loft, and lie angle, can help alot, too, especially if you have a consistent tendency, such as pulling long puts. It could be because you equipment encourages you to pull long puts.

That being said, I have never bought a putter based on fit (actually, I have only owned 3 putters in my life.) I was fitted at the Pelz seminar I posted about earlier and told that my current Scotty Cameron is good in every way except it needs to be 1 degree more upright. I have not adjusted because I need at least 1 degree of excuses.

Id have to go check my bag, but mine is one of these 2 ray cooks or a blend of both. I'm pretty sure my hozel is in the heel. I like it, and am very confident with it. Put rather well. The rest of the game is as women. Sometimes great, sometimes a b****. :whistling:

Have you tried going to a shorter putter shaft length.
It could help you get head over the ball, and help with your alignment.
