The Golf Thread

Actually, I did almost hit a car. The tee box on three borders a neighborhood road with OB left. The car was moving parallel to the drive at about 35 mph. If he had been going 40, I would have drilled him.

That, of course, leads us to today's word problem: If a car passes the tee-box going at 35 mph at the same time the driver face impacts the ball at 114 mph with a 3 degree closed clubface, how much will Cotton need to pull the ball in order for someone to need to purchase a new windshield?

Well, when you have 68 yards to the green for your second shot on a 402 yard hole, that's 334 in my book. :eek:k:
so a 450 yard hold does a 90 dogleg at the 225 point, what's the straight line distance to the hole? I know your a math star, so help me out. (hint, the ratio on an isoscoles right triange is 1-to-1-to radical 2, or about 1.41). If I carry the trees straight to the house, I certainly didn't hit it 450.

Demo'd the new Nike Sumo 2 for an entire round today, shot a 90. Hit the driver on 10 holes, 2 were awesome, 7 were playable and 1 was lost (right, big slice)..

Retail for 480.00 and after the performance today, I'll stick with the Titelist 483k.

If I'm the math star, you must be the English major.
OK, my English is so poor that you must not have understood the point. Cutting the corner of a dogleg on a 400 yd hole to leave 68 does not equal a 334 yd drive.

I'll work on the English so you might understand the question and be able, with plenty of help, to tell the straight line distance to the hole from the scenario above.

Well, I got through my first complete round of 18 yesterday. I was playing very well for me--+3 after 8--until we ran into a mixed foursome visiting from another club on the 9th tee box, and waited for just over 25 minutes. Evidently, that was just enough time sitting Indian style between the markers for me to revert to an ugly pull hook, which first appeared when I hit my 3 wood off the tee on 9 into the pool.

I played the next 10 at 14 over. Bleh.

Ok guys, I'm going golfing in 3 hours and I need one major tip to focus on.

Here is my MAIN problem (of many): I hit it right with almost every club. With my woods, I slice. With my IRONS, I don't slice, but it just goes right immediately. I'm 99% sure I don't get my wrists through. I don't mind losing "distance" if I hit it straight more often.

Tip or 2?

Aim left?

In all seriousness, you are probably swinging inside to out--it is the most common cause of the push-slice. It sounds like a lesson or two may be in order, but I guess for a bandaid you could try to concentrate on taking the club back straighter and then think of throwing the clubhead down the fairway at impact. That's my best guess, anyway. I have enough problems with my own swing without trying to fix others.

Mickelson blew another win, in the Barclay's Scottish Open

2 up, then ends up in a playoff, and on the first playoff hole, hits it OB..

I saw that. 1 up on 18 and he drove it in the right rough to make bogey. In the playoff, he actually drove it left into a hazard and made a pretty amazing play to get out and make bogey again, but Havret got up and down from the bunker to par.

His driving on that hole (and a couple of others downt the stretch) cost him that tourney.

It was good to see Els playing well again; he finished 3rd.

Very nice Cotton.

Very nice Cotton.

Thanks, it was nice for a while. The round reminds me of a story my father likes to tell about an old cow that always gave a good bucket of milk, then kicked it over or pi#$ed in it before you could get it away from her. Golf is like that for me.

I've got a meeting this afternoon with a guy coming in from Memphis, and we are playing afterwards. I'm going to try to remember what I did on the first 8 and forget what I did on the last 10 when I play today. At least the guy isn't very good.

a 10-over par 82 for me yesterday, lost 2 brand new ProV 1s on back to back holes, one driven OB into a pasture field that I could have gotten to if I'd climbed the fence but it just didn't seem worth it, the other into the drink on the island green par 3, it was 168 to the center, pin in the back and I picked the wrong time to sweet the 6 iron, flew the green and missed a swimming duck by inches.

Good Luck today

Good Luck today

Thanks; it will be a good afternoon one way or another. I always like it when he comes here to play, as it means he owes me a reciprical round at what, undoubtedly, will be a much better course. He's the guy that got me on Medinah last year.

Also, alot of falling out or spinning out combined with dipping the front shoulder can cause this rather common problem on a regular basis. Try to evaluate where your upper body is going through the end of the swing and are you somewhat im-balanced at follow through. As others, my knowledge of certain techniques is better than my execution.

VIA,

Avoid tips on here unless you golf well enough to understand what's cause your problem. Instead of fixes, I'll tell you what I think the problems are.

Slice with driver means clubface is open at impact relative to direction of clubhead travel. If club's square to line, yet club is moving left, voila - slice. Directly right on irons could be several things, from hitting on the extreme toe, inside out swing (which I doubt given the slice on the driver) or quasi shank (hit on extreme heel). You'll get far more out of someone watching you (even with limited knowledge) than you will listening to a bunch of guessers on this board.

Have to agree there, other than just general talk about possible causes.

Was it the short draw of the straw that got you're post right after mine, or was that intentional?:p
