I played #5 last year. On the first tee, the starter said " the sprinkler heads are marked with distances to the front, middle and back of the green. And since the course was designed by Donald Ross, you're a moron if you use shoot for anything but the middle."
#8, 5, and 4. #2 was closed for maintenance, but we scrubs would have died on that track. 5 and 4 were great, 8 was mediocre, IMO. #1-5 all start at the main clubhouse.
If you head that way again, you should look into staying at Pinehurst but broadening your courses. Tobacco Road and Pine Needles are must play courses. There are a ton of packages that let you play the Pinehurst courses and mix and match from the other greats out in the Southern Pines area.
I did laugh at some of the ESPN crew definitely overreacting to Woods yesterday; but then again it was a slow sports day and I guess it was nice for them to be able to report something positive for the guy for once.
Plus you do have to give him credit, he had to come out and be on fire to have any chance of making the playoff and so far he's stepped up. That's certainly not been the norm in a long time.
I'm bummed he's not in the final paring, but oh well. Hard way to end on 18 yesterday, so it'll be interesting to see if he can get off to fast start today.
Love doesn't really get talked about as a great because of his only having one major, but he's really had a nice career and played well for a long time.
