The Golf Thread

Completely insane that Rickie Fowler could ever shoot 84 and then 65 the next day at the same golf course.

Going to my first Major this year. My Dad put in for the PGA Championship lottery since it's in St. Louis this year and got selected. Will be for Saturday so am really hoping that Tiger and Phil will be around for the weekend as this might be my only chance to see them play in person.

You're going to have a blast. Get there early and take it all in. Watching those guys hit is something else.

I can hit it just like them, except not nearly as long.....or as straight……..or as solid......… or as consistently good.
Look at any club in their bag, but especially their wedges. All have a spot about the size of a dime worn into the face. Incredible at those swing speeds.

I noticed that many years ago when Tom Watson was in his prime. His old Ram forged blade 4 iron had a wear spot smaller than a dime, right in the middle, and up a couple of grooves. Unreal.

This thread sure is lifeless.

What are you all hitting around 100 yards out? I’ve been going with a half-swing pitching wedge, getting mixed results, thinking of buying a 52

Gap wedge is about 100 for me. Just got new wedges delivered today though. Haven’t got to really hit them yet other than chipping with them.

That's just about a perfect SW for me.

Just go ahead and give in and buy a Gap wedge. The way the lofts have been reduced on most sets nowadays, just about everybody is carrying 3 wedges if not 4.

I’m physically stronger now than I was a decade ago (thanks Army). My iron distances are still the same, my driver and 3 wood distance is up (but I credit club technology instead of me). All that to say a decade ago 100 yards was a perfect SW. Now, as mentioned, I have to muscle into it for 100 yards. I don’t get it

Most PW's are 46-48 degrees of loft. If your next club (sw) has 55-56 degrees, you have a big gap in yardage. Depending on your PW loft, you probably need a 50 or 52 degree GW.
