This LIV thing with the PGA is sad. Didn't see a whole lot of Mickelson and his run setting the age record for his finish. Especially with all the PGA hypocricy surrounding the Saudi money. Every PGA tournament, including The Masters, has some form of sponsor money from major corporations doing business in Saudi Arabia. The PGA Fan Shop's principal owner/investor at 48% is the PIF, with the balance being China, Qatar, and one other Arab country. They should get over themselves.

Phil being on LIV is part of it, but Phil also came out of absolutely nowhere to card that -8. It wasn't like he was lurking the whole weekend. Hell, he was -1 for the tournament and 9 shots off the lead with just 13 holes left When he was making that run on the back 9, they showed every shot.

The PGA Tour needs to get over it and move on from LIV. The whole "...but it's dirty money" line didn't work but at this point, I'm not sure how many player defections remain; it seems like if you wanted to move you would have moved by now. Most of the big names (JT, Spieth, Rahm, Rory, etc) seem set on the PGA Tour. LIV isn't good quality golf, everybody seems to agree that 3 rounds and no cut is stupid, and nobody is watching those tournaments.

I'm sure at some point LIV will fade away. It was a bad look for the PGA to object so much to a new league on the grounds of money they also accept from the same fund, and to ostracize palyers that wanted to give it a go. It was unecessary for them to feel so threatened and have that much lack of confidence in their product. The PGA was never in any danger from LIV. Did hate to see Phil jump over though. And to even consider a similar LIV format in certain tournaments. PGA officials just haven't looked very competent. Can't blame players for taking mind altering deals to be mediocre.

I think there was a panic moment initially, and probably justifiably so, that there would be mass defections from the Tour. I still think LIV might pose a threat to the Tour by poaching good amateur players. The PGA Tour does not control any of the majors, even the PGA Championship. I play golf and am a fan of the sport, but even I only pay attention to the majors, the Ryder Cup every other year, and (kind of) a few other events. The Tour only controls those "few other events" that most people pay attention to.

Outside of The Players, The Tour Championship, and maybe a couple other events, there honestly isn't that much difference in the quality of competition between the PGA Tour and LIV.

Yep. Most of the top players make their money and either go play in some nice overseas events or spend time with family, while the 2nd tier players scrap out a living on all the other events. There are a few events that draw a selection of the top players, but not every week. I don't think Bubba is an impact on either tour anymore. Surpised they offered him so much. He had a brief run in the sun and faded into the pack. THe PGA advantage is they have had the televised coverage and promotion figured out for a long time. LIV would probably had a better start if they had been better at marketing and televising.

That would have been easy without all the mess. Let them go play, but institute a minimum number of PGA tour events to remain eligible. They can pre-declare each season which events they will use for their eligibility, and hte rest is whatever they want to do, whether they just vacay, or go play LIV, or non-US PGA events can count toward the minimum. If something happens such as illness or injury, they can ask for an exemption, or substitute another event.
